Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem Will Introduce Netherite Horse Armor

The forthcoming Minecraft update, dubbed the Mounts of Mayhem, will add another upgrade for players’ mounts: netherite horse armor, something players have been calling for for some time. While netherite has been the max tier of gear for players for some time, horses have remained secured to iron, gold, and diamond armor. The addition of netherite horse armor finally brings horses to max protection and visual identity with totally equipped late-game players; horses will finally have the same protection that gear players have.

For the time being, players can access the netherite horse armor as part of early testing in Java Snapshot 25w45a and the Bedrock Preview. This allows players to have a trial run on the armor ahead of full launch and provide feedback to the developers for any major bugs or issues before going live.

How to Craft the Netherite horse armor Minecraft

Crafting the netherite horse armor is the same as the upgrade path of upgrading one’s netherite tools and armor worn by players. Players will need:

• One Diamond Horse Armor
• One Netherite Ingot
• One Netherite Upgrade Template

Having a crafting upgrade path ensures that the netherite horse armor still feels worth it and earned. Players are still given the ability to go into the Nether, gather ancient debris, and then smelt that ancient debris into Netherite, upholding the difficulty and rarity that players have experienced. The new upgrade template will work similarly to the upgrade templates of the recent updates, and thus create consistency in the crafting progression of the game and its past few updates.

Netherite armor is endowed with durability and knockback resistance, and those benefits are passed along to the horse. The aesthetic features a darker color, a more plate-like appearance, and is intended to resonate with the netherite style players will recognize from player armor. The developers specified that not only did they want this armor to look strong, but also that it provides genuine protectiveness.

This update encourages Mounts of Mayhem’s overarching theme of enhancing interactions with mounts.

These strong horses will be reliably exploitable during combat, explorative, and travel, generally speaking, particularly in dangerous biomes with frequent damage events.
