MIBR wins its third championship trophy in the ESL Challenger League NA after an excellent 3-2 victory over Evil Geniuses Black in the Grand Final. As a result, MIRB, EG Black, and ATK (3rd place) all sealed their tickets to the upcoming ESL Pro League S18.

There is no doubt that MIBR’s victory is more than deserved, as the Brazilian team played a magnificent tournament, which was only marred by the defeat suffered in the Upper Bracket final against EG Black. However, the team recovered, crushed ATK in the Lower Bracket, and took revenge in the tournament’s grand finale to become three-time champions of the ESL Challenger League.

MIBR suffer but defeat Evil Geniuses Black 3-2

First, we must remember that in the ESL Challenger League, the competition format is that the team that qualifies for the tournament’s grand final through the Upper Bracket will have 1 map advantage. As a result, Evil Geniuses reached this best-of-five (BO5) grand final with the advantage of having a map win in their favor. However, MIBR was able to fight against it and get a solid 3-2 victory.

The grand final between MIBR and EG Black was played on Ancient (MIBR), Inferno (EG Black), Nuke (MIBR), and Overpass (EG Black).

Ancient

With a map against them, MIBR had to start with a victory to dream of being the tournament champions, and they did it.

The first half was exciting, as MIBR went from winning 8-1 to closing the first 15 rounds with a score of 9-6. Then, in the second half, Evil Geniuses continued with their devastating pace and went 14-13 ahead on the scoreboard. However, MIBR could react in the end, and they took the win 16-14 to even the series 1-1.

Inferno

Evil Geniuses Black’s comeback at Ancient was no fairy tale or fantasy, for at Inferno, we could see a spectacular level of play from the team, especially, Paytyn “junior” Johnson and William “RUSH” Wierzba.

In the first half, with EG Black on their T-side, they gave MIBR a real beating with a partial score of 12-3. This undoubtedly left the Brazilians surprised and with their arms down. In the end, EG Black took the victory by 16-3 to put the series in check.

Nuke

It was a different story in Nuke, as the Brazilians could display their full potential on their T-side in the first half to take a 10-5 partial victory. Felipe “insani” Yuji had a spectacular match, finishing with 135 ADR and a 2.05 Rating.

By switching sides, MIBR could win the remaining six rounds to take the 16-10 victory and even the series again at 2-2.

Overpass

Finally, both teams gave us an excellent match in Overpass, where EG had Jadan “HexT” Postma and Colby “Walco” Walsh as protagonists, while MIBR relied on Henrique “HEN1” Teles and insani.

MIBR struck a first blow in the first half after taking a partial victory by 8-7 on their side T. This, without a doubt, is a good omen considering that Overpass is a very good map for the CT side.

Then, at the change of sides, EG Black also managed to deploy a spectacular offensive on their T side, and, after a spectacular back and forth, they managed to tie the score 15-15 to send it to Overtime. However, in the end, the Brazilians stepped up to win 19-17 and become champions of the ESL Challenger League S45 NA.
