Supercell announced a major update for Clash Royale’s Merge Tactics mode, bringing the first Seasonal Reset along with new Rulers, rewards, cards, modifiers, and cosmetic upgrades. Since launch in June 2025, Merge Tactics has become one of the more popular experimental modes, and this update looks to make it a more permanent part of the game.
What the Seasonal Reset Means
The main feature is the Seasonal Starsteel Reset, which clears current progression to begin a new cycle of competitive play.

- Aligned with Main Seasons: Merge Tactics seasons will now run alongside Clash Royale’s main seasons, lasting about one month. This makes tracking progress and earning rewards simpler.
- End of Current Season: Players are limited in the time they can climb before the impending reset, so this is their last chance to make sure players get this season’s rewards.
This ongoing reset allows the game mode to remain competitive and provides every player with something new to plan for and reason to push ranks each month.
Rulers Update: Who’s In and Who’s Out
We are going to make some updates to our Rulers, the characters in the game that add a unique twist or flavor to the game through their unique ability.
- Royale King – Continues to be available.

- Spirit Empress – Will be removed from the reward pool after this season.
Players who have unlocked will continue to use, only those who did not must now unlock her prior to the reset. She may be returning in the future to players through a possible reward mechanic or in the shop.
Two additional Rulers are set to join with the re-set. One will be a brand-new character, and we did not reveal any abilities. The other is already a well-known Ruler but will be returning with redesigned mechanics and will affect the strategy for play.

Supercell is adding more features to grow Merge Tactics:
- Cards & Traits: New Troops and Trait mix open more strategy choices.
- Modifiers: Special match conditions will keep games different.
- Skins & Visuals: Ruler skins and cosmetic options expand the look of the mode.
How Merge Tactics Fits into Clash Royale
Merge Tactics gives Clash Royale players a turn-based, merge system where four players fight using troops and synergies. Troops are placed and merged before battles happen automatically, so planning is as important as quick moves. Matching Traits boost power, adding extra layers to strategy. Rulers change the flow of matches too. Royale King gives Elixir after losses, while Spirit Empress adds Elixir with every merge. This mode also introduced Clash Royale’s first 3D troop renders, showing a new style compared to the normal look.
With Rulers, cards, modifiers, and visuals being added season to season, the mode is growing deeper and always shifting. With players engaging more, Merge Tactics is setting itself up as a regular fixture in the game.
