Marvel Rivals recently made a huge change quietly. Quick Play bots received a serious improvement, and players never even knew. The AI doesn’t act like it used to anymore. Previously, bots were simple to detect basic maneuvers, had no actual strategy, and basically functioned as background filler. Now, they’re acting like real players do, pinging enemies, setting up sprays, and even camping around like humans. Weird, huh?
Real Challenge or Hidden Deception?

Before the upgrade, Quick Play resembled actually a warm-up zone. People would come in, do a little playing, and maybe test a new hero. These days, it is not like that. Such bots, or even calling them that, are giving some good competition. The synchronization and timing are also needed to win. VideoGamer explained that certain matches now demanded teamwork and skill in order to survive.
But not everyone’s impressed. Actually, lots are irritated. The game still does not clearly let you know when you’re battling bots. Some gamers claimed it is misleading, like they’re led to believe they’re fighting humans but really aren’t. This prompted angry postings on forums and Reddit discussions. One posting stated that NetEase can employ these intelligent bots to provide new players with false assurance so that they wouldn’t leave early.
How Players Are Reacting
The reaction has been polarised. Others are celebrating the augmented AI, and they have been terming it a nice way of training. Others take it as smoke and mirrors. They do not like the fact that statistics and progress related to matchmaking can be spoiled because of fighting with non-humans. They believe statistics ought to be drawn on actual PvP ability.
Gamers have discovered loopholes to identify bots, such as looking at their profiles or observing the bot-type names. Even that’s getting difficult, though, with this new AI pattern. Bots are now pausing, taunting shots, and emulating human movements. It’s coming to a point where people are questioning whether the game ought to display a “bot detected” symbol in matches.
Looking Ahead: Season 3.5 and Bot Strategy

This is just before Marvel Rivals’ Season 3.5 update, which releases on August 8, 2025. It is not certain whether bot activity will be adjusted again, or a feature to opt-out of playing against bots for those who prefer human opponents will be included.
If NetEase keeps going this way, PvP and PvE might become closer to each other. Whether this attracts or repels players remains to be seen. In the meantime, Marvel Rivals has evolved, and not everybody is sure whether that’s a success.
