Spanish international and Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has become the latest soccer star to enter the Esports scene. De Gea announced the launch of his new team earlier this week, which will go by the name of Rebels Gaming. The org is set to compete in VALORANT, League of Legends and Rainbow Six Siege, with the latter being the personal favorite title of De Gea’s.

Rebels Gaming has hit the ground running, announcing its complete VALORANT and Rainbow Six rosters, as well as that they have secured a spot in the LVP SuperLiga 2nd Division, the second division of the Spanish top-tier League of Legends scene.

How Rebels Gaming Will Operate

There will also be a significant emphasis on content creation at Rebels Gaming. The org plans to add a host of well known streamers to its books, with a gaming center in the Spanish capital having been planned for the future. Speaking on the news, De Gea made the following statement via the org’s official site:

“The digital age and technology create a playing field in which to develop new capacities and dreams. We want Rebels Gaming to be one of the global reference clubs, not only because of its competitive level, but also because of its commitment to talent and the ability to inspire the youngest when looking for new opportunities and have a positive impact on society.”

Alvar “Araneae” Martin Alenar has been named as the org’s new Esports Director, with the Spaniard being one of the country’s most successful League of Legends professionals in history. Araneae has experience as a player, coach and personality, making it a major coup for Rebels Gaming. Much will be expected from their LoL team as a result.

Who Makes Up Rebels Gaming’s Rosters?

Rebels Gaming’s VALORANT team have already been in action, having finished second at the Circuito de Elite – Final. The players involved had been practicing together for under a month before the event, demonstrating their significant potential. The international lineup is made up by Wadir “WADDLE” Taraki, David “Fizzy” Figueiredo, João “jannyXD” Daniel, Felix “lyNxi” Björklund and Alessio “musashi” Xhaferi. Meanwhile, John “Papasmurf” Yoo and Alberto “Tinder” Rodriguez Casilla will coach the team.

In terms of the org’s Rainbow Six Siege roster, players are all former Wizards Esports Club members. While they have achieved success domestically, international honors have so far escaped them. Most recently, they finished bottom of their group at the European Challenger League 2021, failing to win a single match at the event. Julián “HuliK” Francos, Joan “NaoResh” Tort, Mario “Nubaii” Oliveira, David “Deivid” Vila and Alejandro “aLex” Lora will be hoping to make improvements upon signing for Rebels Gaming.
