LYON have secured the final North American place at the 2026 League of Legends World Championship. The defending LCS champions defeated Shopify Rebellion 3-1 in the Summer playoffs, ending Shopify’s lower-bracket run and locking LYON into the international event.
The result sends LYON to Worlds alongside Cloud9 and Team Liquid. Their exact seed is not yet finalized, but their qualification is now guaranteed.
LYON Take Control With a 2-0 Start
The series began strongly for LYON.
Game 1 lasted 35 minutes and saw LYON build a clear advantage through objectives and map control. They finished with 13 kills, 10 towers and a gold lead of more than 10,000.
Game 2 was far more one-sided.
LYON completely took over the map and closed the game in 26 minutes with a 23-3 kill score. Saint played a major role on Syndra, finishing without a death and helping push Shopify to the edge of elimination.
The opening two games looked like this:
- Game 1: LYON win in 35 minutes
- Game 2: LYON win 23-3 in kills
- Saint finishes Game 2 with a 12/0/5 Syndra performance
- Shopify fall 0-2 behind in the best-of-five
At that point, LYON were only one map away from Worlds.
Shopify Rebellion Refuse to Go Quietly
Shopify did not collapse after the heavy Game 2 defeat.
The team responded in Game 3 and finally disrupted LYON’s control. Shopify finished the map with a 10-6 kill advantage and extended the series instead of allowing a sweep.
That win reflected the resilience Shopify had already shown during the lower bracket.
The team entered playoffs as the sixth seed after finishing the regular season 3-4. After losing 3-0 to Cloud9, Shopify then completed a reverse sweep against Sentinels and later survived another five-game series against FlyQuest.
Their run had already exceeded expectations before the LYON matchup.
Shopify forced LYON to reset after Game 3, but they could not turn that momentum into a full comeback.
The fourth game ultimately decided the series.
Saint Helps LYON Close the Series
LYON returned with a much stronger performance in Game 4.
Saint switched to Twisted Fate and again became one of the most influential players in the game. He finished 8/1/9 while LYON produced 24 kills and 10 towers.
Support player Isles also delivered a major contribution on Seraphine, ending the map at 3/0/17.
| Game | Winner | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Game 1 | LYON | 35 min |
| Game 2 | LYON | 26 min |
| Game 3 | Shopify Rebellion | 31 min |
| Game 4 | LYON | 32 min |
Shopify finished the final map with only eight kills and fell more than 12,000 gold behind before their Nexus went down.
The 3-1 victory confirmed LYON’s return to Worlds.
LYON Complete the LCS Worlds Lineup
North America’s three representatives are now set.
Cloud9 qualified earlier in the playoffs, while Team Liquid also secured its place before LYON completed the regional lineup.
The confirmed LCS Worlds representatives are:
- Team Liquid
- Cloud9
- LYON
LYON can still improve their final seeding through the remaining domestic matches.
Team Liquid defeated Cloud9 3-1 in the upper-bracket final on September 27, sending Cloud9 into the lower-bracket final against LYON. That series is scheduled for October 3.
The LCS Grand Final follows on October 4.
Shopify Rebellion Move Toward Demacia Cup
The defeat ends Shopify Rebellion’s Worlds hopes.
Their fourth-place finish means the team will not join the three LCS representatives at the World Championship.
However, their season is not entirely finished.
Shopify are expected to participate in the Demacia Cup Global Invitational, giving the roster another international competition despite missing Worlds.
That event is separate from Worlds qualification and does not replace a place at Riot’s main global championship.
LYON Build on Strong 2026 Season
Worlds qualification continues a strong year for LYON.
The team won the LCS Spring title and later produced an impressive international performance at MSI, including a sweep over G2 Esports and a competitive five-game series against Hanwha Life Esports.
LYON also finished first during the Summer regular season with a 6-1 record.
Their playoff path became more difficult after a 3-1 defeat to Cloud9 pushed them into the lower bracket, but the win over Shopify ensured that the setback did not cost them a Worlds appearance.
The October 3 rematch against Cloud9 now gives LYON a chance to improve their seed and reach the LCS Grand Final.
Assessment
LYON’s 3-1 victory was more important than the final score alone suggests.
The team built a commanding early lead, suffered a setback in Game 3 and then responded decisively instead of allowing the series to reach a fifth map.
That ability to reset under pressure was critical with Worlds qualification at stake.
For Shopify Rebellion, the loss ends an unexpectedly deep lower-bracket run that included multiple elimination-series victories.
For LYON, the main objective is already complete. They are going to Worlds 2026.
The remaining LCS matches will now determine whether they travel as North America’s second or third seed and whether they can add another domestic title before heading to the World Championship.
