Lucas Blakeley is the F1 Esports champion after sealing the title at the final round in Abu Dhabi on Friday night.

The F1 Pro Championship 2022 season consisted of 12 rounds, split into four events, and, from start to finish, Blakeley was the most consistent driver and, above all, the driver to beat.

Lucas Blakeley, a Scottish sim racing driver who is part of the McLare Shadow team, is the world champion of the F1 Esports Series, the official annual tournament of F1 2022.

After the last event of the season, at the Abu Dhabi Circuit last Friday, the McLaren driver has managed to get this coveted title against Fred Rasmussen, Red Bull driver, and Thomas Ronharr from Haas. It was a lovely fight between these three drivers until the end.

Rasmussen was Blakeley’s main enemy

Red Bull driver Rasmussen was the one who had the best chance to snatch the championship title from Blakeley on the last day in Abi Dhabi.

Ronhaar was left as an alternative after both Boroumand (Blakeley’s teammate in the Mclaren Shadow) and Jarno Opmeer, Mercedes driver and two-time world champion, were out of the fight.

The poleman was Josh Idowu, an AlphaTauri driver who registered his first pole at the highest level. Ronhaar started second and, at the start, managed to overtake Idowu to take the lead. Rasmussen also overtook Idowu and chased Ronhaar, placing fourth in Blakeley.

The positions remained stable at the front of the pack for the first twenty laps. Then, the drivers made their respective pit stops, after which Ronhaar remained in the lead with Rasmussen behind him.

Piotr Stachulec, Ronhaar’s teammate at Haas, tried to block Blakeley so that he would lose positions since, if he was ninth and Ronhaar was ahead of Rasmussen, he would be champion. However, Blakeley overtook the second Haas driver without losing too much time.

Four laps later, Rasmussen caught up and overtook Ronhaar, taking the race’s lead.

The order of the drivers remained the same until the end of the race, with Rasmussen winning ahead of Ronhaar and Idowu. Blakeley, with his fourth place, secured the F1 Esports Series championship title.

Final standings of the F1 Esports Series 2022

Like the Formula 1 calendar, Abi Dhabi closed the F1 Esports Series season.

Blakeley finished the season as champion with 181 points, eight ahead of Rasmussen (who is again runner-up for the second year in a row) and 16 ahead of Ronhaar.

As far as the constructors’ championship is concerned, McLaren Shadow has crushed its rivals, securing the title with two races to go.

McLaren Shadow has amassed some 330 total points to Red Bull’s 208, with Haas third with 177 points to Mercedes’ 158.
