LPL Summer 2020 Finals Preview: Top Esports vs. JD Gaming

The Playoffs Stage of LPL Summer 2020 has reached its most important moment: the Finals. Only two teams remain and one of them will be the winner not just of the event, but also of a direct invite to Worlds. Let’s have a look at the teams and their chances.

The remaining two teams in the race for the LPL Summer 2020 Playoffs title are Top Esports and JD Gaming. Coincidentally, these were also the top 2 teams in the Group Stage. So practically, each of them had to win just one match to reach the Finals. Top Esports smashed Suning (3 – 0) while JD Gaming defeated LGD Gaming (3 – 1). Suning then went on to win the 3^rd Place Match against LGD (3 – 0). This may be an important clue in figuring out who the favorite is. If Top Esports easily crushed a team that in turn defeated its opponent without losing a single game, and JD Gaming actually lost one game against that defeated competitor, this suggests that Top Esports is significantly stronger.

Top Esports ended the Group Stage of LPL Summer 2020 with 13 wins and 3 losses. The start was particularly impressive: 6 wins in a row. In its direct match against JD Gaming, Top Esports won with a score of 2 – 0. The games were also short (24 and 29 minutes), which suggests that Top Esports had no problems against their opponent.

In spite of losing its direct match against Top Esports, JD Gaming had a great Group Stage performance and managed to finish 2^nd with a record identical to their opponent’s: 13 W – 3 L.

The results of these two teams suggest that we should be preparing for a hard-fought battle. But in the end, Top Esports should win with a score of 3 – 1.
