The long-awaited Ruination event is right around the corner, which means we’ve once again entered spoiler season! The folks over at Riot have just unveiled three brand-new event-related cards and, needless to say, they’re quite peculiar!

There’s a brand-new champion expansion coming our way as well and it’ll almost surely introduce Viego to the game. His potent abilities (a euphemistic way of saying “OP”) will surely affect the meta in huge, sweeping ways so expect all hell to break loose once he’s released!

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves — Ruination is still a couple of days away. In the meantime, let’s take a closer look at what was just revealed!

LoR | New Ruination Cards Revealed

Ruined Rex is a 5 mana unit from Bilgewater with 3 | 3. Once played, it’ll cast Cannon Barrage on randomly targeted enemies for each card you’ve drawn that round, up to five times. Talk about a potent play effect! If harnessed fully, it’ll obliterate a good chunk of your opponent’s side of the board — all for just five mana. Not too shabby! It’s not the most cost-effective card in the game, that’s for sure, but players will still find a good use for it.

Rimefang Denmother is a 6 mana unit from Freljord with 5 | 5. Once summoned, it’ll summon Rimefang Pack (1 | 1 with Overwhelm) and grant it +1 | +1 for each time you’ve managed to Frostbite enemies during the game. Seeing how Freljordian decks are based on the Frostbite mechanic, it’s fair to expect Rimefang Pack to grow to 6 | 6 if not even higher. So you’re practically getting two extremely powerful units (one of which has Overwhelm) for just six mana. Extremely powerful, no doubt.

Thrumming Swarm is a 7 mana unit from Shurima with 8 | 4 and Overwhelm. Once summoned, it’ll create another copy of itself in your hand if you’ve leveled a champion prior to its summon. An okay effect, although somewhat niche. We’ll reserve judgement until we see it in action.

Closing Remarks

All in all, these three LoR Ruination cards aren’t anything overly spectacular, but they’re still a nice addition to the game. Whether this is the start (a foretaste, if you will) of something much bigger remains to be seen. We’re still hard at work dissecting the latest expansion and yet we already have something new to sink our teeth into! Exciting stuff, no doubt!

We’ll be back with more coverage before you know it, so stay tuned!
