LOL Worlds 2024 Swiss Stage UPDATE: T1 Advance To Quarterfinals Knockout Stage

fragster Stalingrad 14. October 2024

Glorious is the return of the “T1 Worlds form”. In a dominant fashion, T1 has run through the League of Legends (LoL) World Championship 2024 Swiss Stage with only one loss against Top Esports. Their recent win against G2 Esports gave them their 3-1 match record and booked them their spot to the Paris Quarterfinals.

Considering T1 did not at all enter LoL’s biggest global tournament in an ideal form, making it to Knockouts has given fans one big plot twist to lose their minds about. Their qualifying win is marked with incredible plays, stellar performances from the top lane duo, and unbelievable clutch performances that secured them victory.

T1 vs. G2: Old Friends, Fierce Rivals

The high-stakes Round 4 match-up of T1 and G2 is something fans have humorously accepted as inevitable. While friends off the Rift, they have 8 years of rivalry in their history, eventually finding each other as opponents in international events every year. T1 has shown better results with 8 games and 2 series ahead of G2 in the total of 10 international matches they have played each other.

This time, both teams entered the match with 2-1 records, knowing that a Knockout Stage qualification is on the line. It seemed like an epic close series was about to go down between old rivals, but it ended up looking like a one-sided competition for G2.

A One Sided Rivalry: Series Breakdown

Game 1: T1 Takes Control

The first game saw T1 firmly establish dominance following an early first blood from Gumayusi. With great team coordination and strategic decisions, they were able to win most teamfights and score multiple kills on the opponent. G2 was left struggling to find footing even with an Orianna-Nocturne combo that is considered to be one of the best threats in an enemy draft.

T1’s toplane duo of Oner and Zeus were practically unstoppable, with Zeus’ Gragas pick being an unexpected show-stealer. The two were simply in their A-game, serving as key to teamfights and securing objectives, even making some highly important kills. Faker, T1’s legendary midlaner, is back on his signature Ahri and skillfully outmaneuvered G2 at every turn. T1’s lead soon snowballed and secured them the win in just 28 minutes.

Game 2: No Chance for Comeback

After a slow and even early game, G2 got the game under their control courtesy of Caps and Hans Sama in a teamfight on the river. They were able to march to T1’s base and destroy two inhibitors, showing great improvement after their adjustments from Game 1. However, the team cannot quite fully get through T1 who had put up their best defenses, having their minions and Zeus’ unbelievably tanky Jax to the rescue.

The battle isn’t over until the enemy nexus is destroyed. G2 found it out in the worst way possible during one of their most crucial games in the Swiss Stage. With impeccable timing, Oner changed the course of the match with a jaw-dropping Baron steal. G2’s sure shot at victory was completely overturned in a matter of minutes, and T1 followed it up with relentless assault. G2 fans can only watch in disbelief as T1 tore through their team’s base, completely sealing the series 2-0.

Oner of the Rift: The Star of the Series

T1 held their secret weapon in their jungler, Oner. While every member definitely pulled their weight, Oner’s outstanding performance in both games, not to mention his Baron steal, makes him the MVP. Despite fans worried about his form in the LCK Summer, his consistency through T1’s whole Swiss Stage run solidified his reputation as one of the fastest members to grow, adapt, and truly perform at the international stage. Like T1 as a whole, Oner in Worlds just proves to be a different force to be reckoned with.

Now Onto Paris: T1’s Road to Glory

With their spot in the quarterfinals secured, T1 now set their sights on the road ahead in Paris. Despite entering the tournament with a shaky form, T1 climbing their way to the top in the Worlds Swiss Stage has fans and viewers anticipating if their dominance can continue in the Knockouts. Initially met with doubts as to whether they can make it, T1 is on their way to making everyone believe.

Heavy is the crown for the defending champions, with tougher opponents in the Knockout Stage gunning for their title. Starting October 17, eight teams will compete for two spots in the London Grand Final, promising more thrilling battles. If T1 maintains or increases the level of performance they showcased in the Swiss Stage, they might just assert their place as Worlds champions and legends in the esports scene.
