The group stage of Worlds 2022 begins today and the best 16 LoL teams in the world are ready to delight us with their skills.

As usual, the competitors are divided into four groups and only two teams per group will advance to the playoffs. The battles are best-of-one. Each team will play six matches, twice against every other team in its group.

The first three matches for each team will occur on separate days. But the last three matches will occur on the same day. Basically, Riot Games decided to start with two matches per group for the first 50% of matches, and then dedicate one day for each group for the remaining six matches.

During the group stage, you can expect to be able to watch six matches per day. This stage of the tournament starts on October 7 and ends on October 16. On October 11 and 12, the teams will take a break and there will be no matches played.

Group A

Group A of LoL Worlds 2022 will be tough for everyone. All of the four competitors are strong, so not even T1 and EDward Gaming are guaranteed to qualify. They are indeed the favorites, but they’ll need to play well to emerge victorious.

Here are the teams in this group:

  • T1
  • EDward Gaming
  • Cloud9
  • Fnatic

Group B

Group B is just as tough as group A. Normally, we’d be tempted to say that there’s no hope for the North American representative, Evil Geniuses. But given that Jeong “Impact” Eon-yeong, a former Worlds champion with T1, plays for them this year, it’s hard not to take them seriously.

The complete list of participants in group B is this:

  • DAMWON Gaming
  • JD Gaming
  • G2 Esports
  • Evil Geniuses

G2 are extremely strong right now. If we ignore their defeat against Rogue in the Grand Final of LEC Summer 2022, their roster is arguably just as strong as the South Korean and Chinese ones. Historically, G2 have been a top four team at Worlds, so everyone expects them to at least qualify for the playoffs. But it will be hard.

Group C

In group C, DragonX and Top Esports seem to have an easy path to the playoffs, but Rogue could potentially eliminate one of them. GAM Esports has no chance whatsoever. The winner of the group will most likely be Top Esports.

  • DRX
  • GAM Esports
  • Rogue
  • Top Esports

Group D

In Group D, there can only be two winners: Gen.G Esports and Royal Never Give Up. Even though 100 Thieves have two South Koreans in their roster, the fact that they lost both LCS Spring and LCS Summer without winning a single game clearly proves their limits.

  • 100 Thieves
  • CTBC Flying Oyster
  • G Esports
  • Royal Never Give Up
