Team Liquid are reportedly set to add three star player names to their League of Legends roster. Top laner “Bwipo” and mid laner “Bjergsen” are set to join the organization after being free agents, while Liquid has agreed to a buyout with Rogue for AD carry “Hans sama”. Such arrivals could well put the team in a good position to make a real run for the championship, with further signings having not been ruled out.
The League of Legends free agency window opens on Monday, with deals set to be officially announced shortly after. Should Liquid retain Academy support prospect Bill “Eyla” Nguyen, they would have one of the best rosters on paper in the scene. Eyla is likely to earn a starting position at the beginning of the season, with “CoreJJ” still having not been granted a green US green card.
How Team Liquid are Looking to Work Around Riot Games’ Rules
Meanwhile, despite becoming a free agent this week, “Santorin” looks set to sign a new deal with Team Liquid, due to the fact that he qualifies as a US resident under Riot’s policy. Just two foreign players are allowed on each team, which will be occupied by Bwipo and Hans sama should they arrive as expected. Despite being Australian, Eyla is counting as American, following the dissolution of the OPL last year. Meanwhile, Bjergsen and Santorin are also grandfathered due to their extended time spent in North America.
As a result of the reported arrivals, the future of mid laner “Jensen” is very much up in the air. Having two years remaining on his $4.2 million deal, Liquid will likely find it difficult to find a buyer for Jensen, with the Dane having recently revealed that it is possible that he will not play at all in 2022. It is only the likes of Cloud9 and TSM that can afford to sign Jensen.
Why Liquid Are Looking to Rebuild
Liquid failed to make it through to the quarter-finals of the Worlds for the third consecutive year in 2021, leading to the start of a roster rebuild. Bjergsen parted ways with TSM at the end of October, with Liquid having pounced, despite initially considering playing Jensen in the AD carry position. They eventually came to the decision that Hans is better suited to the role for 2022. Bwipo looks set to return to the top laner, having departed Fnatic after just one
