The first stage of the BLAST Premier Spring Groups concluded with FaZe, G2, and Vitality winning their places in the Spring Finals. Now, the remaining teams face off in a cutthroat knockout stage to secure their spots. In the opening matchups, Liquid took on BIG, while Evil Geniuses challenged Complexity, with the winner moving on to the second round.

Complexity thrash EG to book a match with NAVI

After crushing their North American rival EG in the opening round of the BLAST Premier Spring Groups Knockout Stage, Complexity kept their dream of making the Spring Final alive. After cruising to a 16-7 victory on Anubis, the team captained by Ioannis “Johnny” “JT” Theodosia lost to EG 16-12 on Inferno before clinching the series finale 16-8 on Overpass.

The driving force behind EG’s complete destruction was the 22-year-old Michael ‘Grim’ Wince, who amassed a 1.49 rating and 71 frags over the course of the series. Complexity now moves into the second round of the knockout stage where they will play Heroic for a spot in the Spring Final. On the other hand, EG were ousted from the competition as a result of this loss, which left them with only one more opportunity to make it to the Spring Finals—the Blast Premier Showdown.

BIG upset Liquid to advance to the second round

BIG bagged a 2-0 victory in their Spring Groups match against Liquid. With commanding victories on Nuke (16-2) and Anubis (16-8), the team led by Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz totally obliterated Liquid in the best-of-three series. BIG’s members all chipped in and helped the team win, but rifler Nils “k1to” Gruhne set the bar high, finishing as the series’ top fragger with 36 kills, and carried the team with a 1.47 rating.

Liquid’s campaign at the Blast Groups comes to an end in the knockout stage as they exit the competition in 10th-12th place. Keith ‘NAF’ Markovic shined on both maps and led his team with 31 kills and a 1.00 rating but in the end, his efforts weren’t enough to rescue the team from defeat.

BIG will now play Heroic in the second and final round of the Knockout Stage in a high-stakes game that will see the winner through to the Spring Final and the loser will be forced to compete in the Spring Showdown. On the other hand, as a result of Liquid’s dismal effort, Liquid will have to pass through the extremely challenging BLAST Premier Spring Showdown in order to qualify.
