Lima Saw the European Team Finally Break Their ‘Curse’ and Win the Championship

In a thrilling best-of-five final, the ESAN Convention Center in Surco hosted the clash between Team Liquid and 1win. The series stretched to a decisive fifth game to determine the champion of the Elite League Season 2.

The standout performer, Michał ‘Nisha’ Jankowski of Team Liquid, led his team in a remarkable comeback to clinch the title. This victory served as sweet revenge, as 1win had previously defeated Team Liquid in the upper bracket final on August 3rd.

With this win, the European team secured the top prize of $240,000, while 1win took home $120,000. Meanwhile, the Peruvian team BOOM Esports finished in third place, earning $72,000.

What Path Did Team Liquid Take to the Championship?

Team Liquid began the tournament in the second position during the Swiss round, enabling them to proceed to the group stage, where they finished in fourth place. This position allowed them to compete in the upper bracket semifinals against OG, a match that Team Liquid won.

In the upper bracket final, they faced off against 1win. 1win emerged victorious, pushing Team Liquid to a decisive series against the Peruvian team, BOOM Esports. Team Liquid triumphed over BOOM Esports, securing a revenge match in the grand final against 1win.

With this victory, Team Liquid broke a streak of final losses that had plagued them since November 2020, when they were defeated by Vikin.gg in the 13th season of DOTA Summit. At the event in Lima, with ‘Nisha’ playing a key role, the European team finally achieved the much-desired victory.

Prize Pool

The tournament featured a prize pool of $1 million. Of this amount, $800,000 was allocated based on the teams’ final standings among the 16 participants. An additional $200,000 was earmarked for teams according to the audience they attracted during the Main Event.
