Here’s an unexpected bit of news — Riot just announced a brand-new keyword called Fury. This wouldn’t be such a surprise if they didn’t already announce Invoke mere hours ago. Their announcement schedule has been keyword first and then champion, but it seems though they’re switching things up as the Call of the Mountain expansion inches closer to release. Finally, as the crème de la crème, we have official confirmation: Aurelion Sol is coming to Legends of Runeterra, and he packs a punch, to say the least.
How does Fury word in Legends of Runeterra? When a unit with Fury kills an enemy, it’ll automatically gain +1 | +1. Seeing how these Fury-equipped Dragons pack a punch, they
So let’s go over what’s new and how it could impact the meta going further:
Latest Cards
- Herald of Dragons is a two mana unit with 1 | 1 and a passive that’ll make Dragon allies cost 1 less mana. The point of this unit is to bring out Aurelion Sol (or another potent unit) as quickly as possible. Nothing more, nothing less.
- Whiteflame Protector is a four mana Dragon with 4 | 4 and a Fury passive.
- Fused Firebrand is a five mana Dragon with 5 | 5. The real kicker is that it has both the Fury and SpellShield passives. Killing it will require quite a lot of effort. Heck, maybe that’s even an understatement.
- Screeching Dragon is a five mana Dragon with 4 | 5, along with Challenger and Fury keywords. This is about as broken and OP as it sounds.
- Dragon’s Clutch is a three mana Burst spell that’ll allow you to draw two different Dragons or, alternatively, grant Dragon allies +1 | +1.
Dragon decks will be insanely powerful, that’s pretty much a given at this point.
The five Dragon support cards are incredibly powerful and exciting, but the real fun starts with Aurelion Sol himself.
Cower. Worship. Marvel. All appropriate responses.

Talk about an immensely powerful entity. This truly is baffling in every sense of the word, and kudos to Riot for shipping such a bonkers set of cards. This version of Aurelion Sol in Legends of Runeterra is quite frightening, but seeing how he’s one of the most powerful champions lore-wise (which is something you wouldn’t be able to tell by his performance on the Rift), this sort of release is quite fitting.
The Power of Aurelion
- Aurelion Sol is a 10 mana Dragon with 10 | 10. You’ve read that one right. He’s also equipped with Fury and SpellShield. When you summon him, you can Invoke a Celestial card that costs 7 mana or more. When the round begins, Aurelion will create a random Celesial card in your hand. To level him up, all of your allies need to have 20+ total Power. That shouldn’t be particularly hard seeing how these Dragons pack a punch. Once leveled up, Aurelion will have 11 | 11 and will make all of your Celestial cards cost 0 mana.
- The Infinite Mindsplitter is an eight mana Dragon with 8 | 8 with Fury. Once you summon him, you can pick two enemy targets. At the start of every round these two units will automatically be stunned.
- Inviolus Vox is a six mana Dragon with 5 | 6 and Fury. His passive is an interesting one. When an ally with Fury kills a unit for the first time each round, you’ll get a random Dragon unit in your hand.
- Starshaping is a five mana Burst spell that can Invoke a Celestial card that costs 7 or more mana, and then heal an ally or your Nexus for 5.
- Messenger’s Sigil is a one mana Burst spell that will shuffle 5 The Messengers into your deck.
- Aurelion Sol’s The Skies Descend is a 15 mana Slow spell that’ll deal 15 damage to all enemies. It’ll also cost 2 less mana for each Dragon or Celestial ally you have at the moment. Also, you can shuffle an Aurelion Sol into your deck once this card is activated.
Closing Remarks
This, frankly, is absolute insanity. There’s just too much power present within the Dragon archetype. Maybe that’s even an understatement. On the one hand, this is all extremely exciting. On the other, there’s a staggering amount of synergy present here. Perhaps the Dragon archetype will be particularly weak early on, but we’ll have to wait and see what’s the best counter. These cards, while immensely powerful, require a lot of resources. So if you can overwhelm you opponent early on, you stand a good chance of winning before Aurelion hits the board. If, on the other hand, that does end up happening, you might as well surrender!
Either way, Riot has delivered across the board. The Call of the Mountain expansion will hit live servers on August 26th!
