Each team has four matches remaining to decide if they are going on an early vacation or battling in the playoffs.

LEC Week 7 Day 1

Misfits vs. Astralis

Astralis needed this win badly to get into the playoff picture. They had a better head-to-head record versus Misfits, and even if Fnatic won, Astralis would be in sixth place. Instead, it all fell apart after their top laner first picked Gnar and got solo killed two times in lane. Astralis had a chance to snowball through the bot lane on a level four tower dive but bot laner Kasper “Kobbe” Kobberup decided that Draven’s flash was more important than cashing in on 150 stacks. The game soon got out of hand with a 6000 gold lead at the 20-minute mark in favor of Misfits. The single target damage of the Draven, Pyke, and Viego quickly got out scaled by Nikolay “Zanzarah” Akatov’s Poppy, who is on a three-game winning streak after being promoted from the LFL roster.

Vitality vs. Team BDS

The super team Vitality have assembled seems to finally have hit its stride. Despite defeating the last-placed Team BDS, their recent four-game winning streak shows their strong understanding of the meta. The last five teams that picked Sivir in the LEC all won their games and jungler Kang “Haru” Min-seung has looked way more comfortable since being put on Trundle duty. As for Team BDS, there is not much to talk about. Mid laner Ilias “NUCLEARINT” Bizriken got his signature solo queue champion Qiyana but failed to make any sort of impact despite being paired up with a Wukong, Amumu, and Kennen ultimates. The team looks out of sync and disheartened, with the jungler and support finishing with 0-6 scorelines in less than 24 minutes.

Fnatic vs. SK Gaming

After Astralis lost the earlier game, Fnatic’s playoff future was entirely in their hands. They had a chance to tie Excel at the sixth playoff spot with a win and they did just that. The assassin picks did not work out today in the LEC, with the Akali pick for SK Gaming struggling to make an impact against the two tanks of Fnatic. Fnatic also drafted Kog/ Lulu as a counter to Sivir and the game was basically decided after an ill-advised 9-minute Herald fight that SK lost with a numbers disadvantage. SK Gaming didn’t get their first kill until the 22-minute mark when Fnatic slew the Baron, with which the game and SK’s playoff hopes concluded.

Rogue vs. MAD Lions

The top of the leaderboard faced off in this one, with Rogue looking to hold onto the second spot despite the recent surge of Team Vitality. Rogue managed to best out the MAD Lions in the early game not through aggression, but with their laning prowess. Large CS leads in all three lanes resulted in Rogue being up by 3500 gold at the 15-minute mark. The game stalled after that, with no kills being registered in the next 15 minutes until everyone got to at least three items. After that, one fight was all it took for Rogue to convert their gold lead into a Baron and end the game. Rogue’s carries looked on point and jungler Kim “Malrang” Geun-seong finally showed up when given a playmaking champion in Wukong after a three-game losing streak on Trundle.

Excel vs. G2 Esports

The day concluded with the evenly matched G2 and Excell who held a three-way tie for the fourth seed with 7-6 records. G2 managed to win despite the surprising first pick Jarvan, who turned out to be as useless as expected. Excel however drafted themselves into the loss by picking Orn and Taric into Sylas and topped it off with the new champion Nilah. Nilah’s LEC debut turned out to be a big disappointment since the champion seemed to not do damage despite having three items and the perfect team comp around her. G2 ended the game after two team fights that resulted in the Baron and the base.

Competition recap

Heading into day two of week seven of the 2022 LEC Summer split, the playoff picture still looks as dim as ever. The MAD Lions remain at the top with a 10-4 record, followed by three two-way ties leading up to the seventh spot on the table. Every of the last four games is crucial and we probably won’t know the complete standings until the super week is over. Tune in to the LEC Twitch channel at 5 pm Central European Time every weekend to catch this bloodbath of a playoff race.
