LEC Summer 2020 Losers’ Finals Preview: G2 Esports vs. Rogue

fragster Jennifer Davis 5. September 2020

LEC Summer 2020 only has 2 matches left to be played. And the first of these matches is the Losers’ Finals disputed between G2 Esports and Rogue. In this article, I will take a close look at the teams and what they’ve done so far.

Rogue’s Run in LEC Summer 2020

Rogue is the winner of the LEC Summer 2020 Group Stage. This team had an absolutely phenomenal run in which it managed to beat Fnatic (2 – 0 overall) and other competitors. But it lost both times against G2 Esports. In because they lost against them, this upcoming match seems very hard for them to win. They might still do it, but it’s going to be tough.

Prior to this split, Rogue hadn’t done anything significant in League of Legends. It seems that everything changed for them when Hans Sama joined at the end of 2019. This ADC player truly did some impressive things for this organization. Imagine going from complete obscurity to the number 1 position in the league in just one season. That’s quite an achievement.

Rogue ended with 13 wins and 5 losses. But in the Group Stage, Fnatic proved its superior experience and defeated them 3 – 0 in the Semifinals (Upper Bracket). This sent Rogue in Losers’ Round 3 of the Lower Bracket, where they had to beat MAD Lions, the number 2 team in the league after the Group Stage. They did it with ease (3 – 0) and as a result of this victory, Rogue is now playing for a chance to compete in the Losers’ Finals.

G2, the Big Favorite

G2 is the winner of the Spring Split and still one of the strongest competitors in LEC. The Summer Split did not go exactly as planned and Caps’ squad needed to overcome some severe challenges. In the end in turned out alright, but still far from what their fans were expecting: 3rd place with 11 wins and 7 losses.

But in spite of the losses, G2 still managed to beat both times Fnatic as well as Rogue, the two remaining opponents in this tournament. Furthermore, they only lost (0 – 2 overall) against Origen. How they managed to lose both matches against them is still a mystery, but Origen is no longer here to contest them. So if we think in a pragmatic way, G2 is in good company. Or, to be more precise, they only have left to defeat the teams they already defeated.

However, it’s not that simple. Because Fnatic actually did manage to beat them (3 – 2) in the Winners’ Finals. That’s why they’re in the Lower Bracket now. And Rogue, in spite of looking much weaker, actually managed to beat MAD Lions with a score of 3 – 0, while G2 lost a game against them.

G2 Esports vs. Rogue

G2 starts as the favorite in this Losers’ Finals of LEC Summer 2020 Playoffs but Rogue definitely has its chance. If I had to guess a score, I would say 3 – 1 in favor of G2.
