The wait is over! After we enjoyed an extraordinary LEC Winter Split, where we saw G2 Esports crowned champion against MAD Lions in an incredible final, the actions of the spring season are about to begin, and we are eager to see what this new LEC Split has in store for us.

Start date and format

This weekend the LEC is getting ready to kick off a new Split for the 2023 season. After almost two weeks of rest since the final of the Winter Split, the teams have managed to recharge their batteries and make changes in their lineups to seek new goals in this new tournament.

The LEC Spring Split 2023 starts next Saturday, March 8, 2023, and the best teams of the highest competitive level of League of Legends in the EMEA region will fight for a place in the Grand Final and the MSI.

The format of this Split will be the same as the one implemented in the winter season, i.e., all matches in the regular season will be played best of one (BO1). Likewise, the top eight teams will advance directly to the Group Stage, where the matches will be played in BO3 format. Finally, the LEC Spring finals matches will be played in a best-of-five (BO5) format.

G2 Esports will try to defend its title obtained in the first Split of the season. But there is no doubt that the team can relax more than the rest and focus on improving details for the next MSI. However, the rest of the teams will have to give their all in every match to win the trophy of this Split and get a place in international tournaments.

March 13th

  • Team BDS vs. Team Heretics – 18:00 CET
  • SK Gaming vs. Astralis – 19:00 CET
  • KOI vs. MAD Lions – 20:00 CET
  • G2 Esports vs. Excel Esports – 21:00 CET
  • Team Vitality vs. Fnatic – 22:00 CET

There is no doubt that this Split will revolve around Fnatic’s situation, as they come from being eliminated in the first phase of the Winter Split for the first time in their history. Therefore, the organization has decided to make changes to try to straighten their situation in this new Split and fight for the champion trophy.

MAD Lions will try to take revenge on G2 Esports in this Spring Split after disputing a heart-stopping final less than two weeks ago. However, KOI, Team Vitality, and SK Gaming are also aiming high in this new Split, so there is no doubt that we will have a very exciting tournament.

Unlike the other Splits, it isn’t effortless for teams to make additions to their squads in the Spring. After all, the European Regional Leagues are still ongoing, and many players are fighting for their ticket to the EMEA Masters. As a result, the market for players is practically restricted to academy teams, free agents, or substitutes.
