The Worlds 2025 Swiss Stage is officially set, and the action has just begun. After a blazing Play-Ins between T1 and Invictus Gaming, the tournament moved straight into eight best-of-one games. Sixteen of the top League of Legends teams from around the world faced their first opponents, each aiming to start strong and move closer to the Playoffs. Here’s how the Round 1 matchups played out.

Worlds 2025 Swiss Stage Format

The Worlds 2025 Swiss Stage replaces the old group stage format. Instead of fixed groups, teams face others with the same win–loss record after each round. All opening matches are best-of-one (Bo1), but once a team reaches two wins or two losses, their matches switch to best-of-three (Bo3).

Teams that reach three wins advance to the Knockout Stage, while teams with three losses are eliminated. Matchups are redrawn after every round based on current standings. There are five Swiss rounds in total, and by the end of Round 3, we’ll already see the first teams to make it to the Playoffs.

The draw ceremony was held right after T1’s win over Invictus Gaming, resulting in several interesting matchups. Gen.G and PSG Talon faced each other for the first time ever in League of Legends history, along with other new pairings.

North American teams had tough luck with their opening matches. Both FlyQuest and 100 Thieves faced last year’s Worlds finalists right away. Meanwhile, G2 Esports went up against Top Esports in a rematch of their Esports World Cup meeting, where TES won 2-0. However, both teams now have different rosters, setting the stage for a fresh showdown.

Here are all the matches that took place on Wednesday, October 15th, starting from 7 AM CET:

  • Vivo Keyd Stars vs Team Secret Whales
  • CTBC Flying Oyster vs Fnatic
  • KT Rolster vs Movistar KOI
  • Bilibili Gaming vs 100 Thieves
  • FlyQuest vs T1

Vivo Keyd Stars vs Team Secret Whales

Team Secret Whales started the Worlds 2025 Swiss Stage strong with a win over Vivo Keyd Stars. An early failed invade left VKS’s Jarvan IV stuck at level 1, giving TSW a big lead. Though Hizto made a few risky plays that VKS punished, TSW stayed ahead by taking key objectives and securing the Infernal Soul. Despite some messy fights, they kept control and eventually closed out the game after a short delay.

CTBC Flying Oyster vs Fnatic

CTBC Flying Oyster faced Fnatic in a match between former T1 Academy star Poby and rising rookie HongQ. CFO came out on top with a stronger draft. Driver’s Sion was nearly unkillable, and Fnatic’s weak lanes couldn’t fight back. Doggo’s Caitlyn snowballed fast, and with the Chemtech Soul, CFO became unstoppable. HongQ’s Ryze and Kaiwing’s Neeko pulled off flashy plays to secure the LCP’s second win of the day.

KT Rolster vs Movistar KOI

KT Rolster pulled through a tough match against Movistar KOI. MKOI started strong with early kills and drakes, targeting KT’s bot-laner deokdam while their ADC Supa dominated. The Spanish team nearly secured the Hextech Soul, but KT turned it around with a clutch team fight. Even though Elyoya stole Atakhan as MKOI’s last survivor, KT took Baron, gained control, and finally took the game.

Bilibili Gaming vs 100 Thieves

100 Thieves delivered the biggest upset of the day, as they crushed tournament favorites Bilibili Gaming in front of the Chinese crowd. BLG started Beichuan instead of Shadow and went for a Caitlyn–Elise bot lane, but 100T shut down the combo and gained small leads in solo lanes. The match stayed close in the midgame, but 100T’s carries soon became unstoppable, leaving BLG no room to recover. The North American team handed the LPL’s top seed a stunning loss.

FlyQuest vs T1

If only they had banned Bard. FlyQuest fell to the reigning Worlds champions, who looked confident after their Play-Ins win. Keria’s signature Bard was unstoppable, and even though the game started slow, T1 quickly took over. Soon, in true T1 style, they were already dominating teamfights and shutting FlyQuest down before they could react. It’s evident that FLY tried to fight back, but every time they engaged, T1 turned it to their advantage.

Hanwha Life Esports vs Anyone’s Legend

Anyone’s Legend also pulled off an upset against Hanwha Life Esports in a wild LPL vs. LCK clash. The game was action-packed, with six kills in just the first 10 minutes. When AL went too far for their third drake, HLE struck back with a perfect engage from Delight, letting Viper grab a quadra kill. But after Viper fell during AL’s Atakhan fight, HLE completely collapsed. AL then took Baron, stole the Hextech Soul thanks to Kael’s clutch play, and destroyed HLE’s Nexus.

G2 Esports vs Top Esports

G2 Esports was the LEC’s last hope for a Day 1 win, but Top Esports shut them down fast. TES’ jungler Kanavi took over the game on Trundle and finished 9/0/8. The LPL team dominated, making the European champs look outmatched. G2 dropped to the 0-1 pool, and the LEC ended the first day of the Worlds 2025 Swiss Stage without a single victory.

Gen.G vs PSG Talon

Gen.G made quick work of PSG Talon in their first-ever matchup. PSG tried something new with Maple’s Swain, and Karsa’s Vi helped them stay ahead in kills for a while, even stealing Atakhan. But Gen.G stayed in control with stronger gold and objective leads. PSG had some good moments, but they never really challenged the favorites. It was a clean, confident win for Gen.G, who moved to the 1-0 pool.
