Aegis of Valor System
Aegis of Valor is a brand-new ranked mechanic coming soon in League of Legends in 2026 for players who find themselves autofilling roles they didn’t originally choose.
Autofills are there to help ease queue times due to lower traffic in the queue for some roles. However, this can also be frustrating to players who feel like they’re at a disadvantage.
Player Notification and Incentives
Aegis of Valor aims to combat the loss of League Points (LP) by autofilling into a game. This provides autofilled players with either a fail-safe against losing any LP or to receive double the LP if they get a mastery score of C or higher in that game.
When players queue up for a match, they will receive a notification in the champion selection lobby that they have the Aegis active for that game. This gives peace of mind that if they get autofilled, they can at least receive some type of safety net.
Furthermore, players queuing for the support/jungle roles get the Aegis benefits at almost the same level as autofilled players.
Queue and Champion Select Updates
In the upcoming League of Legends Ranked 2026, Riot will speed up the champ select process by around 30 seconds by cutting down animated champion selections and timers. According to Riot’s test results in North America and Oceania, this is the best path forward to make future ranked games as quick as possible.
Another significant change Riot made is removing the ability to ban a champion that someone is hovering on the team. Banning the champion someone else is currently looking at has caused toxicity and frustration. Thus, it often leads to tilting and arguments before anyone even hits the Rift.
Rank Distribution Recalibration
Over the years, as meta knowledge continues to develop, players have become proficient at levels far exceeding what they considered ‘normal’ for their rank historically. As a result, players who are just starting out are now able to outperform their peers who would have played at the same rank historically.
New Feature: Climbing Indicator
Another update was the introduction of the Climbing Indicator system to assist players to better understand the difference between their Matchmaking Rating (MMR) and their visible rank.
A lot of players have been frustrated by seeing players in lobbies with ranks that don’t match. For example, a Silver player could be in a Platinum lobby.
The Climbing Indicator system will help players understand that they are most likely still at a lower rank. It indicates that players are working their way through the rankings and have not yet reached a rank to match their skill level.
Other Gameplay and Competitive Changes
League of Legends Ranked 2026 will see a big shift, with Flex MMR matching up better with Solo/Duo. This is done to fix frustratingly unbalanced games where people in Gold Flex lobbies tend to match up with Master-ranked solo players.
The Solo/Duo queue has also brought back the ability to play as a duo across all ranks, including Challenger.
