One of the most played games in the world, League of Legends is also known for having a lot of trolls and toxic players. In a recent post on the game’s subreddit, a user spoke about the opposite: positive attitudes that occur within Riot Games’ MOBA. The post quickly received many votes and comments, resulting in a great discussion about toxicity in the game.

Does competitiveness make League of Legends toxic?
As a competitive game, League of Legends ends up giving rise to a lot of toxicity, insults and trolls in most ranked games around the world. The user who made the post commented: “I know League players tend to be toxic and really negative every time something goes wrong in a match, but to be honest, the ranked games I’ve played recently at least had players trying to do their best”. The player also revealed that, regardless of the problems, his teammates tried to collaborate and make an effort for the team in the matches he played.

Along the same lines, another player commented: “I started playing League again a few days ago and in some matches I made a lot of mistakes right at the beginning (laughs). I was quite surprised because no one cursed me or wished me anything bad. All they said was, “Oh, that champion you got a lot of kills on is going to be a problem later in the game” and that was it. I thought they would say much worse things”, and he also mentioned that: “I don’t take credit for this specific victory, but this kind of attitude certainly helps you not to get nervous and make more mistakes”.
What do you think of the toxicity of League of Legends?
In contrast to the comment made by the author of the post, another user spoke about the duality of some players’ behavior. Speaking about the current environment in LoL ranked matches, this user reported: “The same guy who wishes you a serious illness blindly commits to your play in the next 20 seconds, as if you were old teammates who fully trust each other”. Riot Games has recently tried to take some actions to reduce toxicity, mainly by strengthening punishments for reports of rage and trolls in the game’s latest updates. Fragster wants to know from you: what have you thought of the state of toxicity in League of Legends recently? Has it decreased? Has it increased?
