As the year 2024 draws to a close, Season 14 of League of Legends is also near its conclusion, with Patch 14.23 one of the last major updates before a new season begins. Buffs, nerfs, and adjustments to several champions, as well as updates to the game’s systems and item balance, will bring significant changes to gameplay and meta as the patch hits the servers.
Patch 14.23 Release Date
The League of Legends Patch 14.23 release date is on Wednesday, November 20, and it will be the 23rd and second-to-last update for Season 14. Players can expect 14.23 to be scheduled around the following times per region:
- North America: 3:00 AM PT
- Europe West: 5:00 AM GMT
- Europe Nordic & East: 3:00 AM CET
- Korea: 8:00 AM KST
This follows the two-week cycle of patch releases from Riot Games, as Patch 14.22 was released on November 6. With this steady stream of updates leading to the end of the season, players are set to see and experience important shifts with this and the final patch.
Champion Adjustments
Riot is targeting specific champions for adjustments this patch, mostly due to their dominance in both pro and high-ELO play. The goal is to make the meta more equal and give a balanced gaming experience for players.
Aurora, Rell, and Smolder will see the biggest of these changes, as the devs would be looking to tone down their power while preserving their identities. All champions were considered highly OP, or over-powered, and evidently faced high pick-ban rates at the recently concluded Worlds 2024.
Aurora received an adjustment to Twofold Hex and a nerf to her passive, while Rell’s crowd control is also nerfed but her movement speed and animations are receiving improvements. Smolder is also undergoing some rework to better make him playable in regular play.
Along with changes to the above champions, here’s other notable champion adjustments:
- Azir is getting a boost to his W ability power ratio
- Caitlyn’s ultimate bonus AD ratio is being decreased
- Jinx’s attack damage growth is increasing
- Kha’Zix and Kog’Maw are both receiving nerfs to their kits
- Master Yi, Miss Fortune, and Rammus are all receiving buffs
Item and System Adjustments
Youmuu’s Ghostblade, Yun Tal Wildarrows, and The Collector are all set to have some slight changes in their cost and stats. This comes as part of the item and system adjustments happening with the League of Legends Patch 14.23 release.
On the system level, there’s a more interesting update happening. This will focus particularly on the Bounty system, and Riot will be making a few key changes around this mechanic:
- Champion bounties will grow 14% faster from kills and assists
- Champion bounty reduction due to losing will increase up to 4 times
- The maximum contribution to objective bounties from gold leads has been doubled
These Bounty system tweaks aim to give higher chances of a comeback to teams that fall behind early. With dynamic and more impactful mechanics, “losing” teams can now have more opportunities to tip the scales into their favor.
Upcoming Arcane-Inspired Skins
As a final note, Patch 14.23 will also introduce a new set of Arcane-themed skins for the League of Legends roster. These include:
- Brawler Vi (Legendary)
- Shimmer Lab Singed (Legendary)
- Commander Caitlyn (Epic)
- Prestige Commander Caitlyn (Mythic)
Coinciding with Arcane Season 2, special skins inspired by the Netflix show will also be available in the game. These skins offer a fresh take on the depiction of popular League characters, as well as immerse the players in the rich world of Arcane.
League of Legends Patch 14.23: Looking Ahead
Before the curtain falls on Season 14, fans have still two more patches to anticipate and enjoy. The first will be the League of Legends Patch 14.23, which brings all these changes to the meta and strategic play. Champion buffs and nerfs, item and system adjustments, as well as the arrival of Arcane skins are just a few things to look out for, as the months leading to the season finale surely have great things in store.
