Apart from the Star Guardian skin line, patch 12.14, which comes out today, July 27, also brings a lot of notable changes. Pro play offenders like Gnar, Seraphine, and Zeri are getting nerfed while champions with single target damaging abilities are getting buffed.

Champions

Nerfs

Since the Grievous wounds nerf in patch 12.11, the Darkins of League have benefited significantly. Both Aatrox and Red Kayn saw an increase in survivability, and without strong healing reduction, they have gone rampant. That’s why both of them will now have their base health growth reduced and passive healing cut — Kayn on his passive and Aatrox on his Ultimate and E.

Gangplank, Renata, and Gnar all had their base health reduced among other base stats nerfs. GP received the most adjustments since most of the pro community was concerned about his power level. His base armor was lowered, his Q ability does less damage early game, and his barrels don’t slow as much. On the other hand, his passive and the slow on his Barrels now both scale with crit, but the bonus crit damage on his barrel was reduced.

Patch 12.14 is focused mainly on balancing the enchanter role through items and champion adjustments. That’s why Yuumi, Seraphine, and Janna will now heal less when using their E, W, and Ultimate abilities. Janna received a small flat shield increase, but both her and Seraphine had AP scalings on their shields reduced. Wukong’s base health regeneration was slightly increased to offset the nerf to his passive health regeneration. Meanwhile, Zeri’s ultimate now does less damage and the execute mechanic on her right lick Q only works on low-health minions.

Buffs

Alistar’s Q now costs 10 less mana and has a one-second shorter cooldown at each rank, while Varus received a base AD increase of three. LeBlanc has now more mana and a larger mana growth as well as more base damage on her signature W ability — Distortion.

Jarvan’s E has a shorter cooldown and his Q does more damage when building AD. Apart from these two buffs, another way of trying to buff early-game aggression in pro play is by reverting the 11.3 nerfs to Pantheon, whose Q now does 105% damage to jungle camps and monsters. Teemo now gets more mana as he levels up, his Shrooms cost less mana, do more damage and he can throw them further at levels six and 12. The Ricochets on Sivir’s W now do less damage to minions but execute them if they are below 15 HP.

Items and Runes

Chempunk Chainsword is one of the most gold-efficient items in the game, with some junglers in pro play rushing it as their first item. That’s unacceptable for a situational item, so Riot increased its cost by 200 gold. All components and items that build towards the enchanter items had healing and shielding power nerfed in this patch. Sunfire Aegis started recently popping up often as a Mythic item on carries that rush BOTRK, so Riot is pushing the item towards the tank class by giving the damage on its health scalings.
All Potions in the game will now heal for 25-30 fewer HP to allow the creation of bigger advantages during the laning phase. Defensive runes like Biscuit Delivery, Bone Plating, Conditioning, Guardian, Second Wind, and Unflinching all got nerfed by lowering their numbers or scaling and increasing their cooldown. Offensive laning runes like Scorch and Sudden Impact got buffed to give more damage or more penetration.

Summoner spells

With all champions now being more durable, further damage reduction through Challenging Smite and Exhaust is becoming overpowered. Junglers barely took Chilling Smite since Challenging brought so much value, while every bot laner is taking Exhaust. That’s why both spells received massive damage reduction nerfs.

Drakes and Heralds

The slower game pace has led many players to ignore early neutral objectives and focus on late-game scaling. That’s why Riot is adjusting Drakes by nerfing their damage but giving them more health and thus making them harder to take. Individual drakes are now more valuable, with buffs to the raw stats they give. Meanwhile, the second Rift Herald has 75% more health and both spawns now give 200 local gold.

Other

While Star Guardian skins are hitting the live servers, the prestige K/DA Evelynn and Pulsfire Lucian skins are no longer available in the Mythic shop. Moreover, you can now check who honored you in the post-game lobby.
