League of Legends: 3 champions who were once very different and you probably didn’t know

fragster Yasser 18. July 2024

One of the most played games in the world, League of Legends already has almost 170 champions. Among these hundreds of champions, many are no longer as they were when they were released. Characters like Teemo, Graves, Mordekaiser and many others have undergone changes that have left them unrecognizable to anyone who has been in a cave for the last 10 years.

Because of this, we decided to remember what some champions were like who were marked by their changes.

Mordekaiser

Mentioned at the beginning of the text, Mordekaiser, well known for being a meme in the Brazilian community as “hu3 hu3 br” before and after the launch of the Brazilian server, completely changed the way he plays. Before, a mage who attacked melee, the most Brazilian champion in LoL was not that relevant in the game. He also did not appear much in competitive play. It was in 2019 that Riot reinvented the champion due to his outdated design and gameplay that no longer made sense in the game. The change was not missed by most players, as the champion had an exponential increase in choice, even appearing as a protagonist in competitive play at various times. In ranked queues, he remains a very strong champion to this day, especially in the top lane.

Graves

Perhaps one of the most contested changes today, the old Graves was once a protagonist, both in the competitive scene and in ranked queues. However, in 2015, Riot decided to completely change the champion. With the changes made by Riot, Graves gradually stopped playing in the bot lane. Soon, he found himself as a jungle hunter, where he also had a lot of prominence in both ranked queues and competitive play. However, many players still miss the old Graves, who did not have a 3 attack limit and played in the bot lane as a true marksman.

Sion

The last rework we will talk about will be Sion’s. Before he underwent a complete change, Sion was a champion who could play with both AP and AD itemization. He was a champion who was not often picked, but was a lot of fun to play. However, realizing that Sion was a “fish out of water” in the League of Legends champion ecosystem, Riot decided to transform the champion into one of the most powerful tanks in the game. The change had a good result, as Sion started to appear more in ranked queues and competitive, having now defined his playstyle. However, the change of the champion left many people sad and missing the flexibility of the old Sion.
