Major Tournaments and International Locations

One of the notable changes that Riot would bring to the event schedules of League of Legends 2025 is the addition of a third international event, the First Stand. This comes as part of Riot Games’ major decision to implement a calendar of three Splits for every region.

The First Stand will be fought by a single qualified team from each region shortly after the first Split. This tournament features a round-robin format to ensure that each participating region would get to face one another in a series. The top four teams will then move forward to the bracket stage and the results will seed the winning teams for Canada’s first Mid-Season Invitational.

Moving onto the end of the season, the League of Legends Worlds 2025 will be held in Chengdu, China, with a total of 17 teams participating for the chance to achieve the most prestigious feat in the pro scene. These teams will consist of 3 representative esports teams from each region and 2 additional slots from the top 2 regions that will emerge from the MSI.

While Riot Games mentioned they of course aren’t able to go on a “14-city tour”, they are grateful that they could bring LoL esports to three international markets. With China, Canada, and South Korea, they’re set with ALL League of Legends International Tournament Locations for 2025.

The Fearless Draft

The First Stand will also feature a new drafting system called “Fearless Draft” for the regional and international rounds. This new draft system will automatically ban every champion that has been picked by both teams in every round—meaning that every team will have to broaden their arsenals and practice more champions in order to adapt to this system. In addition to the First Stand, all regional leagues will also adopt this draft mechanics in Split 1.

The aim of Fearless Draft is to make the competition more flavorful and also allow opportunity for more champions to be played and showcased in the scenes of high level leagues. While initially met with mixed reactions, this is a big one out of Riot changes for the League of Legends 2025 season.

Starting 2025, there will be a more cohesive approach in the league events that will surely spice up the revolution that is expected to happen to the next Worlds.

Featuring The New Americas League

Due to its gaining popularity and growth, North America’s LCS will be joining as the representative of the North while Brazil’s CBLOL would represent the South. North America’s LCS team, South America’s CBLOL team, and Latin America’s LLA team—will compete in the new Americas League.

The 2025 League of Legend Esports Americas Split will have three parts:

  1. Split 1 – All teams within their respective conference will compete to send their cream of the crop for a cross-conference play. The one winning team from this will qualify for the new global tournament.
  2. Split 2 – The two top teams, one from each conference, will have a spot to represent America at the MSI 2025.
  3. Split 3 – The Americas Regional Championship will send a total of three teams with at least one from each conference to compete at the Worlds 2025.

Brand New APAC League

Teams are expected to join from Japan, Oceania, Vietnam, Macao, and the rest of Southeast Asia in the brand-new 2025 League of Legends Championship Pacific, or LCP. The top teams that will join the first lineups will be taken from the results of 2024 PCS and VCS Summer Playoffs.
