LCK Summer 2020 is getting close to the end of its Group Stage. Just one more competitive week remains and the stakes are high. The top 4 teams in the league are competing for a good placement in the Playoffs Stage. These last few matches will be their last chance to grab the seat they long after.

LCK Summer 2020 Current Standings

These are the standings at the top of the LCK Summer 2020 standings table.

  • 1st place: DragonX: 15 W – 2 L
  • 2nd place: DAMWON Gaming: 14 W – 2 L
  • 3rd place: Gen.G Esports: 13 W – 4 L
  • 4th place: T1: 12 W – 4 L
  • 5th place: Afreeca Freecs: 9 W – 7 L
  • 6th place: KT Rolster: 7 W – 9 L

Only five on these teams will be in the Playoffs and I think it’s quite obvious which are the winners.

Week 9

The 9th competitive week went completely according to plan for all of the top 5 teams, with the exception of Afreeca Freecs. But in their case, the loss was caused by a direct encounter with one of the other top 5 teams, namely T1. Naturally, T1 won the match, being the superior competitor. But other than then, there were absolutely zero surprises. DragonX had two matches. One against Hanwha Life Esports (2 – 0) and one against SeolHaeOne Prince (2 – 1). DAMWON Gaming had one match, which they won against Team Dynamics ( 2 – 0). Gen.G Esports had two matches. Again, two relatively easy victories. One against SANDBOX and one against Hanwha. T1 defeated Afreeca. And Afreeca then went on to win its second match of the week against SANDBOX.

Week 10 Preview

Based on the current standings and the upcoming matches, I’m quite certain that the winner of the Group Stage will be DAMWON Gaming. Of course, if they can beat T1. If they can’t then their direct rival, DragonX, will be the one to claim that sweet spot which leads directly to the Grand Final.

The hardest matches await T1, and I’m sure they will lose both of them. In such a case, they would finish 4th and would have to compete in the Playoffs right from the start.

Afreeca Freecs will probably lose against Gen.G Esports, but they will still have their fate in their own hands in the direct match against KT Rolster. If they win that match, then they advance to the Playoffs regardless of what happens in other matches. But even if they don’t, the odds of KT beating DWG are very slim. And they do need to win that match in order to have a chance of stealing Afreeca’s spot in the Playoffs.

The upcoming matches suggest that apart from DAMWON and DragonX switching places, everything else will stay the same. And if that happens, these will be the Playoffs matches:

  • T1 vs. Afreeca Freecs
  • G Esports vs. previous winner
  • DragonX vs. previous winner
  • DAMWON Gaming vs. previous winner
