The LCK 2026 Playoffs are underway, beginning the final battle for Korea’s remaining places at the League of Legends World Championship.
Six teams have reached the double-elimination playoff bracket after the regular season and Play-In stage. Hanwha Life Esports already hold a Worlds 2026 berth through their MSI 2026 victory, while three additional Korean representatives will qualify through the LCK postseason.
T1 opened the playoffs against BNK FEARX on August 29, while Dplus KIA will meet KT Rolster on August 30.
FEARX survive the Play-In to face T1
BNK FEARX had to take the long route into the main playoff bracket.
After defeating Nongshim RedForce 3-1 on August 27, FEARX faced HANJIN BRION one day later. The deciding Play-In series went all five games, with FEARX eventually winning 3-2 and securing the sixth and final playoff position.
That result immediately placed them against T1 in the first Upper Quarterfinal.

T1 entered the postseason as the third seed after finishing the regular season behind Gen.G and Hanwha Life Esports.
Their final week was mixed. T1 defeated KT Rolster 2-1 but then lost 0-2 against HLE, preventing Faker and his teammates from securing a direct place in the second playoff round.
Three additional Worlds places are available
Worlds qualification gives every playoff series considerably greater importance.
Hanwha Life Esports do not need to rely on their LCK playoff finish because winning MSI 2026 already secured their World Championship place. The remaining teams are competing for three additional Korean slots.
That means reaching the top three among the remaining eligible LCK teams guarantees a place at Worlds 2026.

The structure gives Gen.G and HLE a significant advantage because both skip the opening round.
Gen.G wait for their Round 2 opponent
Gen.G finished first in the regular season and therefore enter the bracket directly in Round 2.
Their 2026 domestic campaign has not been as dominant as the organization’s exceptional 2025 run, but Gen.G still secured the top seed after finishing level with HLE and holding the decisive head-to-head advantage.
One interesting weakness has been their record against Dplus KIA. Dplus defeated Gen.G multiple times during the latter stages of the regular season, making a potential playoff meeting particularly dangerous.
Hanwha Life also enter directly in Round 2.
The MSI champions were particularly successful against T1 and KT Rolster during the latter part of the regular season, although Gen.G and Dplus caused them considerably more problems.
Dplus and KT meet in the second quarterfinal
The other opening-round matchup takes place on August 30.
Dplus KIA face KT Rolster in a best-of-five, with the winner moving deeper into the upper bracket and the loser falling into the elimination side of the bracket.
Dplus enter with strong international credentials after winning the Esports World Cup 2026, although their domestic season has been inconsistent.

KT are arguably the more unpredictable side. They produced notable victories earlier in the season but then suffered a long losing run before recovering when elimination became a possibility.
T1 chase another Worlds appearance
T1 inevitably attract much of the attention.
The reigning world champions are attempting to extend an extraordinary period of international success, but their route toward Worlds 2026 is not automatic.
Finishing third in the regular season means T1 must navigate more playoff series than Gen.G or HLE. FEARX also arrive with momentum after surviving consecutive best-of-five Play-In matches.
At the latest update from the opening series, FEARX had taken a 2-1 lead over T1, putting the defending world champions under immediate pressure in their first postseason match.
Because the LCK uses a double-elimination playoff system, however, an opening defeat would not immediately end T1’s season.
Assessment
The LCK 2026 Playoffs have unusually high stakes even before the championship itself becomes the main focus.
Hanwha Life’s MSI qualification removes one piece of uncertainty, but Gen.G, T1, Dplus KIA, KT Rolster and FEARX are effectively competing for only three additional Worlds positions.
Gen.G hold the strongest starting position because they enter directly in Round 2. T1 and Dplus have more work ahead despite entering as established international contenders, while FEARX and KT have already demonstrated their ability to survive elimination series.
The double-elimination format leaves room for recovery, but every loss makes the route toward Worlds significantly harder. With the playoffs running through September 13, Korea’s final representatives for Worlds 2026 will now be decided over ten best-of-five series.
