The LA Guerrillas have lost their third consecutive game of the Call of Duty League Stage 3 Major Qualifiers, despite the returning of veteran Peirce “Gunless” Hillman to the start lineup.

LA benched young sub Kris “Spart” Cervantez on May 17 as Gunless returned from a prolonged illness that had seen him sidelined since late March. However, the change didn’t help performances as the Guerrillas fell to the Florida Mutineers 3-1.

LA woes continue

The Guerrillas are a far cry from the team whose lower bracket run saw them earn their first trophy of the CDL era at the Stage 2 Major. Since Gunless left the lineup, the team has gone winless, only picking up four maps in that span.

Things looked promising in the first map against Florida, only losing the Gavutu Hardpoint by 20 points (250-230) before taking the Search and Destroy on Berlin 6-5. The win on Berlin marked their first successful map of the Stage 3 Qualifiers, having been swept in their first two matches.

However, that’s when things fell apart. LA dropped the next two maps in a relatively convincing fashion to lose the match 3-1 and drop to 0-3 in the qualifiers. While it is to be expected that Gunless needs time to re-find his form, clouds are looming above the defending Stage champions.

LA have just two matches left in their qualifying schedule, facing the winless Paris Legion on May 22 before taking on the ever-daunting Atlanta FaZe to close out their qualifying on May 28.
