K0nfig put light on the fist fight after leaving Astralis

The Danish Esports organization Astralis parted ways with star rifler Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke. The decision comes three weeks after k0nfig initially reported suffering an ankle fracture, which is now confirmed to be caused by a physical fight in Malta.

The CS:GO star Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke and Astralis have mutually arrived at the decision of parting ways with each other due to personal reasons. K0nfig was on a break due to his ankle fracture since Astralis’ elimination from season 16 of the ESL Pro League. Astralis participated in the RMR tournament with academy player Mikkel “MistR” Thomsen in his place because he was unavailable to compete. As a result, they were unable to qualify for the IEM Rio Major, finishing the competition with just one win and three losses.

With the departure of k0nfig, Astralis’ roster is now down to four players, and the team is apparently in talks to re-sign star Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz from Ninjas in Pyjamas. k0nfig, on the other hand, came clean about his involvement in a fistfight that took place in Malta, something he had previously denied.

K0nfig’s side of the story

K0nfig, the Spanish CS:GO player, has finally spoken out about the alleged fistfight, three weeks after Jaxon first reported it. K0nfig published a Twitlonger post in which he gave his version of the entire incident. It appears K0nfig and his teammates were disappointed after losing the do-or-die match against Heroic in ESL Pro League, which eliminated them from the competition. The team went out to enjoy Malta’s nightlife and get away from their bad thoughts.

After spending some time in a few clubs, Konfig headed out alone for dinner, while his teammates visited another club in Paceville, one of Malta’s most well-known nightlife areas.  After eating, he walked to the club to meet up with his teammates, but as he approached the nightclub’s entrance, a person who is allegedly in charge of the place stopped him. Instead of just turning away K0nfig, the person in charge began calling him a loser and criticizing him for his tattoos. Further mockingly, he told k0nfig to pay him €5000 Euro or else, he wouldn’t let him enter the club.

In response, K0nfig said to him that “he was the loser for standing in a nightclub queue and feeling better than everyone else”. The in-charge, who was standing several levels higher on the staircase, lost his cool and kicked k0nfig in the face, knocking him off the stairs and straight to the ground. K0nfig was sitting outside the nightclub following the altercation when he unexpectedly noticed the same promoter leaving. He raced after him and confronted him, which the former Astralis player later regretted doing. The promoter retaliated by cursing at K0nfig once more, which led to a physical altercation between the two of them.

“We got into fight, and he broke my leg and I fell to the ground. He was kicking me multiple times in my head while i was laying down.I tried to run away but i couldn’t put weight on my right leg. It just snapped and broke completely, dislocating my foot as well. He stopped kicking me because i dragged him down to me and i had to do self-defence to make him stop kicking me. The promoter stole my phone but luckily someone called an ambulance and I got transported to a Maltese hospital.”

K0nfig was taken to the hospital right away, where he discovered that he needed surgery to treat his fractures. However, K0nfig decided to return to Denmark for the procedure on September 22 after spending a few days in the Hospital of Malta as he felt unsafe there.  The CS:GO pro was so traumatized by the incident, that he began to have nightmares, which led to a depressing phase. Astralis revealed that he won’t be able to play for the team in the RMR, which was another blow to his mental condition when he was undergoing multiple surgeries.

K0nfig added that an investigation into the incident, in which he was classified as a victim, is underway in Malta. He added that when receiving medical care in a hospital in Malta, he underwent a drug test that came back negative, but the promoter, according to the authorities, tested positive.

Will k0nfig return to professional play?

Before discussing his future, k0nfig continues to provide more details regarding his physical condition, noting that he had already undergone two different surgeries to fix the severe fracture. Given that k0nfig is still recovering from his leg injury and that many teams won’t make any changes before the off-season, it is unclear what the future holds for him in 2023. The 25-year-old, though, seems upbeat about the situation and prepared to work harder to develop into a top-tier CS:GO professional.

“I will take this time to work on the things that need to be worked on. I will do everything in my power to come back. My mental health might have gotten hit but it’s not going to take me down.”
