Kingdom Hearts has officially arrived in Fortnite, bringing Sora, Riku, Kairi and Roxas to the Island alongside new gameplay items, cosmetics and limited-time Kingdom Hearts events.
The crossover launched on September 17 as part of Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override. Unlike a simple Item Shop collaboration, Kingdom Hearts also affects Battle Royale through the Kingdom Key, Sea-Salt Ice Cream and two new Overrides.
Epic Games is also planning dedicated Power Hours on September 19, giving every player access to Kingdom Hearts equipment from the beginning of a match.
Kingdom Key becomes a Mythic Battle Royale weapon
The Kingdom Key is the main gameplay addition.
Players can use the iconic Keyblade for a sequence of close-range melee attacks, giving the crossover a more direct impact on matches than cosmetics alone.
The weapon can also call down a lightning strike against opponents.
- The Kingdom Key supports melee combo attacks
- It can trigger a powerful lightning-based attack
- A Mythic version can be generated through an Override
- Every squad member can potentially receive one at the same time
The weapon had already been teased earlier in Chapter 7 Season 4, when Epic confirmed that Kingdom Hearts would join the wider Override theme alongside franchises such as Mega Man, Persona 5 Royal and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
Kingdom Hearts is therefore one of the season’s more substantial collaborations, with the crossover directly changing Battle Royale gameplay rather than existing only in the Item Shop.
Sea-Salt Ice Cream restores health and shields
Another recognizable Kingdom Hearts item has also reached Fortnite.
Sea-Salt Ice Cream can be consumed to restore health and shields.
The item is closely associated with characters such as Roxas and Axel in the Kingdom Hearts series and provides another direct connection between the crossover and the original games.
| Kingdom Hearts content | Fortnite function |
|---|---|
| Kingdom Key | Mythic melee weapon |
| Sea-Salt Ice Cream | Restores health and shields |
| Recovery Override | Eliminations drop healing orbs |
| Level Up Override | Gives squad members Mythic Kingdom Keys |
| Power Hours | Players begin with crossover items |
Both the Kingdom Key and Sea-Salt Ice Cream also become especially important during the upcoming Kingdom Hearts Power Hours.
Two new Overrides appear beneath the heart-shaped moon
The crossover also expands Fortnite’s Override system.
A heart-shaped moon now appears over the Island, and two Kingdom Hearts-specific Overrides can spawn beneath it.
The Recovery Override affects both the activating squad and the wider match. Once active, eliminating a player with any weapon causes healing orbs to drop.
The Level Up Override is more immediately powerful.
- Recovery Override causes eliminated players to drop healing orbs
- Level Up Override creates a Mythic Kingdom Key for every squad member
- The Keyblades appear directly at each player’s current location
- Both mechanics tie the crossover into Chapter 7 Season 4’s central Override system
The second option could significantly change a squad’s equipment during a match, particularly if activated early enough to give the entire team access to Mythic melee weapons.
Kingdom Hearts Power Hours arrive September 19
Epic is also running dedicated Kingdom Hearts Power Hours on Saturday, September 19.
During these periods, every player begins the match with a Kingdom Key and Sea-Salt Ice Cream.
Two separate windows are scheduled.
The first runs from 2 PM to 4 PM ET, followed by a second session from 9 PM to 11 PM ET.
That format removes the need to search for crossover equipment and should create matches built almost entirely around Kingdom Hearts mechanics.
It also gives players an easier way to experiment with the Keyblade before the collaboration rotates out of focus later in the season.
Sora, Riku, Kairi and Roxas enter the Item Shop
The cosmetic side of the collaboration is equally extensive.
Sora, Riku, Kairi and Roxas are all available as Fortnite Outfits.
Each character comes with a matching Back Bling, Pickaxe and LEGO Fortnite style.
Sora is paired with the Kingdom Key, while Riku receives Soul Eater. Roxas uses Oathkeeper & Oblivion, and Kairi comes with Destiny’s Embrace.
Additional cosmetics include the Shadow Steppers Kicks, a Sea-Salt Ice Cream Back Bling and the Lil’ Gummi Ship emote.
Epic is also selling music associated with the series, including Dearly Beloved and The Other Promise as Jam Tracks.
Kingdom Hearts bundle offers the full crossover set
Players who want most of the collaboration in one purchase can also pick up the Kingdom Hearts Bundle.
The bundle includes the four main character Outfits along with their respective accessories and several additional cosmetics.
Epic currently lists the bundle at 4,500 V-Bucks, discounted from the combined individual value.
Individual characters and accessories can also be purchased separately, allowing players to focus on a specific character rather than buying the complete set.
Assessment
The Kingdom Hearts crossover is one of Fortnite’s more ambitious gaming collaborations this season.
The four major character skins would already make it a substantial Item Shop release, but Epic has gone further by integrating the Kingdom Key, Sea-Salt Ice Cream and dedicated Overrides directly into Battle Royale.
The Power Hours push that idea further by temporarily turning Kingdom Hearts mechanics into a central part of every match.
For fans of the Square Enix and Disney series, the cosmetic lineup covers several of its most recognizable characters and weapons.
For regular Fortnite players, however, the more important addition may be the gameplay impact. With Mythic Kingdom Keys available across entire squads and healing-based Overrides entering the match pool, this crossover changes how Battle Royale can actually play rather than simply how it looks.
