Every year, at least a few Dota 2 players who are 18 or less rise to the top of the rankings table in their region. In some cases, they even prove themselves at the professional level, showing everyone that in this esport, the difference between top-level pubs and professional matches is not that big.
In 2024, a 16-year-old prodigy from Russia, who goes by the alias Satanic (weird, right?), became a sensation. He was already spotted last year in pubs, when he was just 15. But now we know he’s super strong thanks to his performance in the EEU Qualifier for The International 2024.
Yellow Submarine’s Qualification Matches

Despite not being one of the favorites, Yellow Submarine managed to finish the qualifier in 3rd place. On paper, the result looks phenomenal. But when you look at the bracket, you realize immediately that they could have achieved a lot more.
YellowSubmarine started the tournament with a match against L1GA TEAM. This was a rough battle between two relatively unknown competitors. In the end, Yellow Submarine won 2 – 0. The games lasted 67 and 41 minutes respectively.
Satanic played under the name Moon and had two remarkable performances. In game 1, he finished 14 – 5 – 7 while playing Chaos Knight. In game 2, he did even better with Morphling: 14 – 1 – 4. His gpm in this second game was 874, which is a very high number.
In the second match of the tournament, Yellow Submarine encountered 9Pandas and destroyed them with ease. The games lasted 37 and 38 minutes respectively. Satanic played Chaos Knight and Terrorblade. In game 1, he played well enough to help his team win. But in game 2 he was phenomenal again: 10 – 0 – 10 and a gpm of 849.
Competing against a player who can play like this regularly is very challenging. It’s likely only a matter of time until this kid gets signed by one of the top organizations or perhaps one of the struggling ones, such as Team Secret. His talent is obvious and Yellow Submarine could never give him a real opportunity to play Dota at the highest level.
The next two matches were rough and full of strange events. The wonderkid continued to play well but his team could not match the strength of his opponents. The first battle was lost 0 – 2 against 1win, who would end up winning the tournament with ease. The second battle was lost 1 – 2 against 9Pandas, who were much better prepared this time.
