Streamer Kai Cenat broke the record for most subscribers on Twitch, surpassing the previous record held by Ludwig by more than 30,000. The 21-year-old American broke the record during the February Subathon, a month-long stream.
Cenat broke Ludwig’s record in late February on the 28th day of his subathon, when he got his 283,067th subscriber, breaking Ludwig’s record. He woke up with a count of around 272,000 and now has over 304,000 subs.
Ninja’s and Ludwig’s record broken by Kai Cenat
The month-long Subathon was a great success. The event was similar to that of Ludwig, who broke Ninja’s 2018 record two years ago. Ninja had previously held the record for concurrent subscriptions with 269,154 in 2018. Before Ninja, no streamer had more than 200,000 subscribers.
Cenat dubbed his stream “Mafiathon” and had many guests on the Subathon stream, with British rapper and YouTuber KSI standing out as one of the biggest. Mr. Beast was there too; he gifted Cenat a real Iron Man suit later that month.
The new king of Twitch 👑@KaiCenat is now the most subscribed channel in Twitch history, shattering the previous record of 283K subscribers.

In a subathon, a streamer starts a stream with a set amount of time, which they extend with every donation or sub on their channel. Some streamers choose to see how long they can make their subathons, while others have to set limits.
Reached more than 300,000 subscribers
Reaching 300,000 subscribers was a very emotional moment for Kai Cenat and he was extremely happy. Cenat sat by his set-up and repeated the phrase “We did it” after beating the record on Twitch. The American spent a while talking about this achievement in his chat. For someone who has become so successful over the past 24 months, he manages to remain incredibly humble.
“The thing with me,” he said in his chat. “I always question myself. I always ask God, I ask why me? I stand by that. We talked about it last night, I knew you all would. We made it bro, we made it, we made it.”
“The job isn’t done yet,” he continued. “LeBron has the most points in the NBA, has he stopped playing?”
Cenat controversies
However, the Subathon also came with controversy. Cenat has been accused of violating Twitch’s Terms of Service by allegedly having a sexual act performed on himself during the stream. He completely denied this allegation. But even before that, the streamer was not entirely undisputed. The week before the subathon started, he was banned after eating too many THC candies on stream and passing out.
Cenat’s Twitch Subathon runs until tomorrow, March 2.
