Team Vitality have officially signed Justinas “jL” Lekavicius as a temporary stand-in for two upcoming Counter-Strike 2 tournaments. The former NAVI rifler will represent the French organisation at BLAST Open Porto and PGL Masters Bucharest.
Vitality require temporary cover because William “mezii” Merriman and Dan “apEX” Madesclaire are expected to take paternity leave during the upcoming tournament period. The organisation has not officially assigned each absence to a specific event, although an earlier media report indicated that mezii would miss Porto and apEX would sit out Bucharest.
jL Returns to Tier 1 Competition With Vitality
The agreement gives jL another immediate opportunity to compete at the highest level. He officially left NAVI in July after previously stepping away from the active roster, making him available without a permanent team.
Vitality confirmed three central details:
- jL will compete at BLAST Open Porto
- He will remain with the team for PGL Masters Bucharest
- The move is temporary and covers planned player absences
The announcement does not confirm that jL has signed a permanent contract beyond those tournaments. His performances will still attract significant attention from organisations searching for an experienced rifler.
jL brings Major-winning experience and a reputation for emotional, aggressive play. He helped NAVI win the PGL Major Copenhagen in 2024 and received the tournament’s MVP award after producing several important playoff performances.
Joining Vitality places jL directly back into a roster expected to challenge for every available CS2 trophy.
Vitality May Use Different Rosters at Each Event
Vitality did not specify whether mezii or apEX will miss the first tournament. Previous reporting suggested that mezii would be unavailable for BLAST Open Porto, while apEX would miss PGL Masters Bucharest.
That scenario would produce two different versions of the lineup.
| Event | Expected player absent | Remaining core |
|---|---|---|
| BLAST Open Porto | mezii | apEX, ZywOo, ropz, flameZ |
| PGL Masters Bucharest | apEX | mezii, ZywOo, ropz, flameZ |
The distinction is important because replacing mezii creates a relatively conventional rifling adjustment. Replacing apEX also removes Vitality’s long-standing in-game leader.
Should apEX miss Bucharest as reported, Vitality will need another player to take responsibility for calling. The organisation has not announced who would lead the team during that tournament.
Potential adjustments include:
- Changing defensive positions to accommodate jL
- Redistributing supportive duties normally handled by mezii
- Appointing a temporary caller when apEX is unavailable
- Simplifying parts of the tactical system for the stand-in period
Coach Rémy “XTQZZZ” Quoniam will have limited time to integrate jL into two possible roster configurations. Existing experience and clear role assignments could therefore become more important than introducing major tactical changes.
The Timing Adds Pressure to Vitality
The move arrives during a difficult period for Vitality. After winning five consecutive tournaments earlier in 2026, the team has now completed three events without reaching the semifinals.
That decline does not erase the roster’s earlier dominance, but it increases the pressure surrounding the stand-in period. Vitality must manage two planned absences while attempting to recover the consistency that made them the leading team at the start of the year.
The August Valve Regional Standings also placed Vitality outside the global top four. The organisation remains one of the strongest teams in the world, but its recent results have allowed Spirit, Falcons, MOUZ and other rivals to close the gap.
BLAST Open Porto may offer the easier transition if apEX remains available to lead the team. PGL Masters Bucharest could present the greater tactical challenge if Vitality compete without their captain and primary caller.
jL Has Already Shown His Value as a Stand-In
This will not be jL’s first temporary appearance of 2026. He previously represented MOUZ as a stand-in and helped the team secure strong international placements.
Those appearances demonstrated that he could return to LAN competition without requiring a lengthy adaptation period. His energy and willingness to take aggressive fights also make him a practical temporary option for a team with established stars such as Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, Robin “ropz” Kool and Shahar “flameZ” Shushan.
The role still comes with challenges. Vitality already possess a carefully balanced structure, and jL may need to occupy unfamiliar positions or accept fewer resources than he received in previous lineups.
For jL, the tournaments also function as an important showcase. Performing well alongside one of the world’s strongest cores could improve his chances of receiving permanent offers after the stand-in period ends.
Assessment
Vitality’s decision provides a sensible solution to two planned absences. jL offers Major-winning experience, recent stand-in practice and enough flexibility to contribute without requiring the organisation to commit to a permanent roster change.
The larger uncertainty concerns leadership at PGL Masters Bucharest. Replacing mezii changes several roles, but competing without apEX could affect Vitality’s entire tactical identity.
Expectations should therefore remain measured. Even an elite roster may require time to adjust when using a temporary fifth and potentially changing its in-game leader between events.
For jL, the opportunity is significant. His professional return continues with two prestigious tournaments and a roster capable of competing for titles. Strong results would help Vitality navigate a difficult period while placing the Lithuanian back at the centre of the Tier 1 transfer market.
