After another banger five-game series, JDG prove they are the best LPL team this summer.
LPL Summer Playoffs format
Fans of the LPL got a treat these playoffs, as the level of competition has been the highest it has ever been. The 10 best teams during the regular 2022 LPL Summer Split qualified for the playoffs, competing in two “King of the Hill” elimination brackets. It starts with the bottom four seeds facing each other, creating two brackets, with the winner advancing to the next round where he faces a higher seed. After round three, the losers from both brackets create a third lower bracket until there’s only one team standing at the top. And this summer, JDG proved to be a cut above the rest.

JDG win the 2022 LPL Summer Split
The finalists, JDG and TOP Esports secured the top two spots during the regular split, finishing tied for first with a 14-2 record. After the third and fourth seeds, V5 and RNG who were also tied with a 13-3 record, fizzled out of the playoffs in round three, the rest of the bracket was a two-team game. Every match ended with a 3-0 or 3-1 result apart from the two JDG-TES matches that went five games. Their first meeting in the semifinals was just a preview of the impending finals rematch, and JDG won both. Led by 2022 Summer Split MVP jungler Gao “Tian” Tianliang, and 2018 World Champion ADC Yu “JackeyLove” Wen-Bo, TES managed to give JDG a run for their money.

JDG Yagao wins finals MVP
Despite amazing performances throughout the playoffs, in the end, it came down to one of the biggest throws ever in the history of competitive League. 35 minutes into game five and with Elder Dragon spawning, Jackleylove tried to use his E ability on Zeri to aggressively reposition and ended up in the entire enemy team because it went over the broken inhibitor tower. However unfortunate this may be, it should not discredit JDG’s title run. JDG were the better team in both showings, with an absolute masterclass of macro gameplay and the superior mid-laner in MVP Zeng “Yagao” Qi.
A couple of #LPL fun facts off today's series:
1. Yagao is the third mid EVER to win both spring and summer along side EDG Pawn and RNG Xiaohu
2. Tian has lost 4 LPL final in a row and each team that beat him went on to win Worlds/MSI. Tian sends his blessing.
