G2 Esports has now officially parted ways with Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski after 5 years of collaboration. In an announcement video, he spoke about G2’s struggles over the past few years and the reasons behind its split from the organization.

There have been rumors that Jankos is leaving G2 for a while now, but nothing has been confirmed until recently. Instead of waiting for someone else to confirm his departure, Jankos released a video of his own.

Jankos says goodbye with a video

Instead of a quick goodbye tweet posted by an organization, as most others do, Jankos has put in the effort to make a video where he talks about his years at G2 and explains what went wrong at the Worlds this year.

Jankos explains in the video that he himself had no intention of leaving his organization after this year. The split happened because G2 seek to try a new player in his position next year.

Jankos is leaving G2, but he is not retiring

Jankos has become a central part of G2’s identity over the years. From his MSI win that restored faith in League of Legends in the West in 2019, to all of his strong performances both domestically and internationally, Jankos has been at the heart of the organization along with players like CaPs and Perkz.

Despite this news, Jankos appeared to be quite optimistic about the future. He said G2’s decision “makes perfect sense” and that by and large, this change could be good for him.

What’s next for the player?

Jankos doesn’t want to retire and said he wants to do his best in the last few years he has left. He is 27 years old and although he is still one of the best junglers in Europe, he is already well above the average age compared to many other players in the LEC.

In his announcement video, Jankos said that “everything must come to an end” when he leaves G2. And unfortunately, at some point, that will also apply to his career. Just not quite yet. Jankos doesn’t yet know where he will end up in the future, but he said he had the “best years of his life” playing for G2. The end of an era, but not the end of his career.
