fragster Stalingrad 30. October 2024

All eyes are now on T1’s ZOFGK roster, the team which has won hearts through its electrifying play and rich history. But with their contracts expiring soon and an alleged new roster for T1, the tournament might be the last days for one of the most prominent teams in the history of esports. The stakes have never been higher because now, they are chasing victories under uncertain futures.

Current Status of the ZOFGK Roster

The ZOFGK lineup, consisting of Zeus, Oner, Faker, Gumayusi, and Keria, are one of the most competitive forces within the League of Legends esports landscape since 2022. They’ve had plenty of triumphs, especially when they take home titles such as LCK Spring 2022 and the World Championship 2023. This makes them one of the top-tier teams in this game’s history. Therefore, when the 2024 World Championship began, expectations were very high for these five players.

With such high emotional stakes, what is arguably the last tournament that these players will have together approaches with a mixed emotion among them in terms of what may come next for their respective futures. A balance exists in the atmosphere between the players being fully concentrated on current matches but not knowing exactly what’s to come in the future.

Contract Expirations

Contract expirations loom over T1’s ZOFGK roster in the final stretch of the 2024 World Championship, where four out of five members—namely Zeus, Oner, Gumayusi, and Keria—will be ending their contracts on November 17, 2024, just a couple of weeks after the conclusion of the 2024 World Championship. As for Faker’s contract, it has been extended up to November 18, 2025, so he is on a different level with his teammates.

In interviews ahead of Worlds 2024, several players have weighed in on the changes. In an interview with Sheep Esports, Oner explains that though he is praying to be able to remain with T1, for the moment his focus lies only in taking the victory home at Worlds.

“Even if this roster breaks apart next year, my main focus is on winning Worlds this year, and I want to put in as much effort as possible until the end. Regardless of what happens after Worlds, I’m ready to handle it.”

In addition to all these, military service commitment for some players also puts another layer of complexity with roster speculations. Both Zeus and Keria confirmed that they will be getting basic military training after competing in Worlds 2024. These commitments are relatively short-term, but they could go a long way in altering contract renewal decisions and possible team compositions in the future.

Speculations and Potential Changes

There have already been murmurs of changes in their respective rosters. Zeus and Keria announced plans to participate in military training after Worlds 2024, casting a shadow of doubt on their capacity to perform in the near future matches, not to mention that those deals make it harder and more complex in contract matters. T1’s management did not issue a statement about extending their contract yet, as they had the tradition for releasing them after the major international events.

Conclusion

With T1’s ZOFGK roster nearing the final stages of the 2024 World Championship, only time will tell if this will be their last dance. The emotional weight of potentially saying goodbye could make things heavy, but perhaps one more glorious victory would actually seal their legacy in the history of esports. Whatever will happen in the next games, for sure, this lineup set a deep indelible mark for League of Legends.
