Monster Hunter Wilds is all about hunting down a scary monster. You play as a hunter that is sent to explore a new dangerous place, and your job is to find out what’s going on. Specifically, to rescue the lost hunters and stop the monsters from destroying the area.
So, Is Monster Hunter Wilds the next evolution of the series? Or is it lost in the wilderness? Let’s dive deep into the game and discover if it’s worth your time and energy.
Promising Gameplay
The Monster Hunter Wilds immediately impressed me with its engaging story and voice characters. Unfortunately, the early preview hindered the experience. The preview is still in development, so graphics may not be a reflection to the final product.
However, Capcom has plenty more time to optimize the game. Despite this, I think it is still interesting to play.
While performance issues in the demo were disappointing, I’m hopeful that Capcom can address this before its launch. If they do probably, this could be the blend of a perfect exploration and fast-paced action.
Key Gameplay Enhancements
Wilds made significant improvements on the series. Your rideable monster mount is now fully customized. It can store a weapon option for a quick swapping while riding.
Your Seikret can navigate special paths, and can use items to collect while gliding, which makes the travels even more engaging. I appreciate how flexible these features are.
I am also surprised with the changes in the Focus Mode. This new mechanic is available for all the weapons in the Monster Hunter Wilds.
By activating this, it helps you for more precise aiming micro adjustment which makes your combat feel smoother and more controlled. This assist aiming camera mode will help new beginners to hit their targets more easily.
I am impressed that this feature allows me to deal big damage to monsters, however it is just an option, you can decide whether you want to aim your attacks by yourself. But still, it is a good start for your journey in the battle.
Challenges and Threats
The game involves exploring diverse environments, where the weather conditions can change unexpectedly. Like the previous Monster Hunter games, Wilds will let you explore various quests, stunning locations and hunt specific monsters.
After defeating targeted enemies, you will harvest its parts and return to the base to have them crafted into a new equipment that will help you conquer more difficult monsters.
While this might sound simple, it introduces some more challenges and dangers. The game environment is very dynamic and can transform from a peaceful paradise to an aggressive area with severe weather that can harm both player and monsters.
Players will also face the threat of Monster Herds. Set in the Forbidden Lands, the small and huge monsters will join together for the protection and hunt weaker prey.
This game allows you to figure out how to defeat your opponents, whether by making them weak or keeping their boss away.
Narrative and World-Building
One of the biggest surprises that this game brought to us is the newly improved narrative presentation. The game features more of a cinematic environment and strong focus on storytelling that makes it more appealing.
Unlike the previous games, the hunter has now a distinct personality and interacts with other characters. All characters have names that make it easier to connect with them. You can really see that Capcom wants us to create attachments with these characters.
Special thanks to NPCs for enhancing these. It will no longer be confined to a separate town. Instead of a town, your base is connected to the hunting area that allows you to enter and exit with upgraded weapons, buy items, and take quests without loading screens.
Multiplayer and Cross-Platform Features
Additional features that impressed me is that Monster Hunter Wild added a co-op multi-players up to 4 players and cross-platform. This will make the players invite random online players to join their hunts. The return of S.O.S and Capcom confirms that this is to fulfill their fans’ major request.
Unfortunately, Capcom confirmed that it will not have a cross-save progression which means you cannot save files in different platforms. However, Capcom also mentioned that this be could change in the future since it is under development. We are just hoping for more updates.
So, is Monster Hunter Wild Good?
Definitely, Monster Hunter Wild is good and it appears to be a promising game that was added to the series.
It offers a blend of familiar gameplay and exciting new features. The improvement about its narrative, dynamic environment and enhanced combat mechanics is what make it a compelling experience for the players.
While there are some limitations and the trailer is still under development, I know Capcom will surprise us more after its launch.
The gameplay is worth keeping an eye for. Beyond these features Monster Hunter Wild is keeping the hype! This is the most anticipated game that most players are waiting for.
So, if you are a fan of Monster Hunter or action RPGs in general, Monster Hunter Wild is definitely worth it.
