How to Unlock the Cling Grip Ability in Hollow Knight: Silksong

fragster James Steward 16. September 2025

Unlocking Cling Grip (Wall Jump) is a significant leap to progress navigating the perilous environment of Pharloom in Hollow Knight: Silksong. It is found in Shellwood, and it’s not just given to you; it’s earned by defeating the formidable Sister Splinter – dying many times in the process – and completing a platforming gauntlet which ends with a shrine where you claim the skill. Once you get it, Cling Grip allows Hornet to scale vertical terrain with a grace that you could previously not reach.

Step by Step Unlock Path – Cling Grip Ability

1. Accessing Regions Must Come First

Players must start off with Far Fields and go through all of Greymoor before they can access the Cling Grip in Shellwood. The prior regions are mandatory progression before they complete the Shrine area with the ability.

2. Reach the Weaver Shrine in Shellwood

In Shellwood, the Weaver Shrine, or its relevant central/top area, is the common point of reference. It is also imperative that you reach the Shrine in Shellwood. One note is that it is apparent that the Shrine in Shellwood is located at the top of the central area in Shellwood, you then must platform and go vertical.

3. Defeat Sister Splinter

In order to obtain the Cling Grip, you must defeat the gauntlet, and then Sister Splinter. After defeating her, the last room with the Cling Grip will open up.

Mechanics and Immediate Functionality

When obtained, Cling Grip will behave like the wall jump in Hollow Knight, allowing Hornet an infinite amount of clinging to flat walls and jumping between vertical surfaces.

The Wall Jump adds access to additional areas that were previously inaccessible and new quest lines, like the passages into new Bellhart areas and the Skull Tyrant quest.

Conclusion

An important traversal ability in Hollow Knight: Silksong is Cling Grip. The players take Hornet through some areas, endure some platforming challenges, defeat a boss and then obtain the ability. Hornet can now explore with so much more potential, and it allows for so much more options for story and quests.
