How to Play the Haunted Masquerade Event in Overwatch 2

A Halloween-themed Haunted Masquerade event has officially begun in Overwatch 2, thus adding something fresh to the seasonal content offered in Overwatch. The new limited-time mode will be available during the Halloween window and adds a new layer to the game by introducing hero modifiers, resource management, and varied combat. Available in the Arcade playlist, Haunted Masquerade introduces special rules and mechanics set against a festive backdrop while retaining traditional PvP mechanics and chaos, as well as intervention from possible power-ups.

The Haunted Masquerade mode changes the Overwatch 2 experience by offering Mases, which are collectible items that heroes can use for both temporary buffs and new abilities. Each match consists of two teams, each with five players, and the objective is not only to defeat but also to collect Masks. The Haunted Masquerade prioritizes player versus player combat compared to previous years’ Halloween modes like Junkenstein’s Revenge, which offered some PvE gameplay. This change in game structure encourages players to work as a team, the map awareness, and adaptability in fighting with total unpredictability.

How To Access and Play The Event

Players can access the Haunted Masquerade mode through the Arcade section of the game’s main menu. Once inside the mode, players will be placed into standard team-based matches, as players will collect Masks that can spawn across the map. The main objective remains to eliminate the enemy team and ultimately control the map; however, collecting Masks gives you some serious advantages that can change the momentum of gameplay. Masks are the foundation feature of Haunted Masquerade and drastically change how gameplay is experienced and understood. Each individual Mask will provide a base modifier, providing advantages such as extra armor, speed boosts, or healing benefits. Some Masks also have heroic modifiers, affecting how certain heroes play and perform. 

For example, the Roadhog Mask heals 100 HP every 30 seconds; however, when Junkrat wears the Roadhog Mask, it changes how Junkrat’s Concussion Mine behaves and affects his ultimate ability. The Reinhardt Mask provides extra armor and melee attack damage, and Brigitte gets special bonuses to shield durability while wearing it. The Genji Mask increases Genji’s movement and agility, rewards extra bonuses when used with teammate heroes like Hanzo.  These mask modifiers promote exploration and experimentation, maximizing player creativity through all layers of teamwork.

Teamwork and Strategy

Haunted Masquerade is ultimately about finding that balance between combat and resources. Players need to choose to fight strategically while regularly taking into account where the Mask locations are to make sure their fighting is effective. The timing is very important; equipping or changing a Mask at the precise moment can change the pace of a battle very quickly for better or for worse!
