Invoker is one of the most popular heroes in Dota 2. Players naturally love him for his versatility and the spectacular highlights that can be created with him.

And now that DOTA: Dragon’s Blood is about to enter the third season, even more players want to master him. But despite his high pick rate in Dota 2 patch 7.31 (17%), the winning rate of this hero is extremely low (47.5%). This brief guide will tell you how to improve your odds with Invoker.

The keys to mastering Invoker

In Dota 2, heroes usually have four abilities. Invoker has 10 of them and they’re all very useful. However, only two of these abilities are instantly available to you at any given time. The rest of them need to be invoked using a Quas Wex Exort combination. So in total, you need to know 10 different combinations and be able to cast them perfectly.

Needless to say, that’s not going to happen when you first start playing the hero. So the first key to mastering Invoker is to pretend that he’s less versatile than he really is. Instead of trying to learn how to utilize all of his spells, just learn how to use three. And then do that for at least 10 or 20 games.

After you’ve automated and mastered a basic version of Invoker, expand a little bit and start using 4 or 5 spells. Do that for another 10-20 games and repeat, until you’ve mastered the hero in terms of spell usage.

Of course, there’s a lot more to Invoker than learning how to properly use his abilities. But the other bits will come to you naturally if you start from here.

The second key to mastering invoker is to play him using either Quas Wex or Quas Exort. Don’t try to learn both skill-builds at once because you’ll get confused. You need at least 50 games with one build to fully understand its timings and optimize your item builds.

If you switch in the middle of that process or go back and forth, you will not memorize everything well enough and you will be mediocre at best.

Dota 2 in general is a game that encourages players to specialize in a role and a set of heroes for that role. Invoker, being a highly complex hero, needs to be approached in the same manner. Learn it bit by bit, not all at once. And you’ll win more often.
