How to get the golden weapon camo in MW2

In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare title, Infinity Ward has fundamentally changed the way you unlock weapon camos. If you don’t quite see through it yet, don’t panic, it’s not just you. At least, unlocking doesn’t take around 220 hours as it did with Vanguard.

Nobody wants to play for a total of 9.5 days to reach the maximum weapon level. Fortunately, we can confidently say goodbye to that because this time, the developers listened to the complaints of players and accelerated the grind a bit.

How do the camos work in MW2?

The new system introduced weapon platforms, which unlock attachments for multiple weapons at once. The idea is great, but unfortunately, the implementation backfired a bit. The interface is more confusing than helpful and leaves more questions than answers. But we bring light into the darkness!

All weapons in Modern Warfare 2 have four base camos and four completionist camos. The cool thing is that base camos are unique and can be unlocked with a weapon. Once in your possession, you can use the base camo with any weapon. By the way, there are over 180 base camos. On the other hand, the Completionist camos are exclusive to your weapon and always have the same style.

How to get the gold camo

If you want the gold camo for your gun, you need to unlock all four base camo types and complete the gold camo challenges. Each weapon has its own level at which the camo challenge is met. For example, you get the M4 Base Camo when you get 50 kills. The challenge for the gold camo is a bit more demanding — you have to get three kills without dying 10 times. The challenges are different for each weapon.

As usual, you can see your progress in the forge menu of the respective weapon. You can also do co-op missions for the challenges because bots also increase progress and it’s a really quick way to collect kills.

Completionist camos

Once you’ve completed all of the Base-Camo Challenges for a weapon and thus received the golden camo, the grind really begins. After you’ve unlocked a certain number of Gold Camos, you’ll be able to take on the Platinum Challenges. For this, you need to complete a certain number of gold camo challenges for a weapon category. That means, for example, for the M4 you have to land 100 kills with the gold camo equipped.

Now it’s getting crunchier. You need 51 Platinum Mastery Challenges to get the Polyatomic camo and unlock the Orion camo. But the last Mastery Challenge is always tied to a weapon category and you need a certain number of kills per class. If you have completed 51 Polyatomic Challenges, you will receive the beautiful Orion camo.
