How to Get an Invite to Deadlock: Play Deadlock Early

fragster Kiboss 28. August 2024

Valve’s new game, Deadlock, is currently playable on Steam through their playtest program as of writing. Unfortunately, getting to play it is still quite a hurdle for most gamers owing to the nature of their approach to testing. But worry not! for we’ve got your back and will cover all possible ways you can access the game and play along with your friends today in this mini-guide.

Recently, Valve lifted the NDA on conversation surrounding their not-so-hush game, Deadlock, opening up the flood gates for content creators and journalists to share their opinions regarding it. This recent development has led to player numbers for Deadlock skyrocketing to almost “released game” levels with a steady player count of about 40,000 and peak player count of over 100,000!

We clearly can’t be the only ones not in on the action; it just isn’t right, and so without further ado, here’s how you can gain access to Deadlock today:

Getting an Invite to Deadlock

1: Be Invited by Valve

If you’re currently here looking for a guide to playing Deadlock, then this ship has probably already sailed.

2: Find Play Testers on The Deadlock Subreddit

Deadlock is currently on Steam but is hidden behind an invite-only playtest system where the only way players can access the game is by getting other people to invite them.

With 100,000 players having access to the game, that should be fairly easy, right? Well, not necessarily. You first need to find these people, which you can do through the various discussion forums and public conversations about the game on social media. One popular resource for finding players to invite you is through the new Deadlock subreddit, r/DeadlockTheGame.

On the r/DeadlockTheGame subreddit, there’s a megathread filled with active players who consistently invite players on request. You can head on over there and request an invite, as there’s always tons of players handing out invites every day. This may account as E-begging, but at this point we really don’t care.

Because of the influx in players, getting your invite may take a few hours to a maximum of 1 or 2 days before it eventually registers, so you may need to wait a bit before hopping on the game.

3: Checking Your Current Friend List

This one is a no-brainer, but if you have a large number of friends on Steam, the odds of them having the game are quite high. With 40,000 players on the game at any given time, it’s more than likely that someone you know is on it and will be willing to shoot you an invite.

So there you go; these are the best ways to get your hands on Deadlock as of right now. The game is in its alpha stage and is still a bit rough around the edges, but none the less, Valve do have a solid game on their hands, so it will be interesting to see how it grows as development carries on.
