We all faced it at some point; the difficulty of getting through a particular part of the game. Often, the most frequent cause of being stuck in gaming is a good old boss fight that happens to be excessively difficult. The Trials of the Dragon in Metaphor: ReFantazio is one such fight, proving too tricky for players to complete. In this guide, we’ll break down some tips and tricks to conquer these trials.
From the developer of the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei JRPG series comes Metaphor: ReFantazio, another brain stimulating game that packs a challenge. The former two have had great reputations for being immersive games with rich storylines and intense strategic elements. Metaphor: ReFantazio follows suit and maintains high-intensity gameplay with Super-Boss quests like Trials of the Dragon.
Best Order To Challenge Trials of The Dragon
The default order to fight the Metaphor: ReFantazio Trials of the Dragon is The Forsaken Tower, followed by The Spire of Blind Faith, and lastly The Tower of Insolence before the Dragon Temple is revealed for you to tackle.
However, the best order to challenge the Trials which is:
- The Tower of Insolence
- The Forsaken Tower
- The Spire of Blind Faith
You’ll want to get the two armors that you would get from the first two towers before going up against the Spire of Blind Faith because it will make things so much easier. You’d also want to grind to at least level 65 before going for all the Trials of The Dragon.
The Tower of Insolence (Bygone Legacy) – Devourer of Stars
- Get To The Tower of Insolence
- Go to the king’s statue in Altabury Heights
- Head to the Blue Sky Bridge Region to find the Enraged Mustari.
- After talking to him, he’ll give you the Proof of Power quest.

- Keep another multitarget heal skill in one of your party members to back your healer up in case they are removing status ailments.
- Bring some MP restoration items because you will be consuming a lot of MP using heals.
- Equip Sanction Gloves to prevent hex on one of your party members. Another good one would be the Venomworld Charm that would prevent a variety of status ailments including poison and hex. If you have the Martial Artist tree at Rank 20, you can also equip the Battle Master to prevent poison and hex.
- Having the Revenant Crown for extra turns is also a must have.
Keep an eye out for Hex and Poison, use Pen Patra and Dekunda as soon as you’re inflicted with these status ailments. Since you only have 300hp, it is better to just have Medi or Medica for healing instead of an MP heavy Medicall. Cast Almighty Slash, Thunderhead Dance, and heavy lighting attacks whenever you have room for it.
After slaying the Devourer of Stars, you’ll receive the Cardinal Dragon Robe that gives 380 Defense, +5 boost on Magic & Endurance, and it nullifies fire.

- Try to get the Fire Dodge skill from the Merchant tree and set it on as many party members as you can.
- Have someone with Rakunda from the Faker tree to lower the defense of the Boss. Dekaja is also great to remove all buffs from the boss.
- From the Commander tree, get Marakukaja to boost your party’s defense. From the General tree, get Matarukaja to boost attack.
- Have one damage dealer that has a heavy Ice/Wind/Lightning spell. Equip that character with a multitarget healing spell as well just in case.

- Keep the Reverent Crown for those extra turns.
This is quite possibly the simplest fight of Trial of Dragon in Metaphor: ReFantazio. It’s all about preparation. The party composition is similar to what you used during the first two bosses. Just be sure to keep buffing, debuffing, and healing—windows to attack will consistently open up and you will steadily seal the victory.
The reward you get from this is the Cardinal Dragon Armor—a melee/tank piece that grants 400 Defense, +5 Strength & Endurance, and Fire Null.
Dragon Temple (Essence of Power) – Elegy of the Soul
After slaying all three Bosses from their respective towers, you will find that the Dragon Temple would be revealed at the center of the triangle. This is the last Boss fight for the Trial of Dragon in Metaphor: ReFantazio.
Elegy of the Soul Boss Fight Strategy
What to expect?
- Do not use any of the Cardinal Dragon Armor in this fight because the boss will use a surekill attack if you have even one on.
- The Boss can use the power of Archetypes and constantly shifts. The order of Archetypes is Seeker, Knight, Thief, Masked Dancer, Summoner, Berserker, Prince, and repeat.
- Its Archetypes do not have any weaknesses, but in exchange, you can pretty much predict the attacks the Boss would use.
Party Setup:
- Make sure one party member is always under the effects of Tetrakarn(Physical Repel) and Makarakarn (Elemental Repel). This is your bread and butter strategy to cut the turns of the Boss.
- In order to be efficient in MP management, set Makarakarn to the Healer, and Tetrakarn to the Tank. Be sure to be fully loaded on MP restoration items as well.
- It’s a must to have a Debuff and Buff Spell in your arsenal. Great Debuffs to choose from are Dekaja, Vidyartha, and Debilitate.
The sum of the strategy is simple: ensure to keep Physical and Magic Repel up on one of your party members to cut the turns of the Boss to a mere 2, be consistent with Heals, Buffs, and Debuffs, attack whenever there is an opening, repeat.
Slaying the last boss will get you the Legendary accessory: Radiant Crystal, that buffs all your stats by +8. You’ll also get the mighty sword: Dragon’s Legacy with 430 Attack and +5 to all stats, and it also turns all your normal attacks to Almighty damage.
