HEROIC Sign Degster

fragster Jennifer Davis 13. May 2024

It seems that HEROIC has had enough. The Danish team had to rebuild the roster at the end of last year and was hoping to get a good result at ESL Pro League S19. On paper, HEROIC’s group looked perfectly winnable. Or, at the very least, they should have finished in the top four.

But despite having to play only against a few strong teams and receiving three tournament lives instead of the usual two, Heroic were eliminated in the group stage.

This was a monumental disappointment. If you can’t qualify for the playoffs when four out of eight teams are granted a spot, the format is triple-elimination, and the opponents are not difficult to beat, what can you expect at a much harsher event, where you need to finish in the top three, can lose only once, and need to play against several world-class competitors?

HEROIC’s Roster Change

After ESL Pro League S19, HEROIC probably analyzed the replays and decided to make a roster change. Nicoodoz was benched just six months after being signed and his place was taken by degster, who last played for OG and prior to that, for Team Spirit.

Despite being just 22 years old, degster has already achieved important results with his former organizations. These results include:

  • Top four at IEM World Championship (2021)
  • 1st place at Pinnacle Cup II (2021)
  • Top four at PGL Major Antwerp (2022)
  • Top four at BLAST Premier World Final (2022)

We don’t yet know how well degster has adapted to CS2 because we haven’t seen him playing professional CS2 in a long time. But there’s a good chance that he is in good shape and very motivated to prove himself. At his age, he has plenty of opportunities.

At the same time, he probably doesn’t want to fall back into obscurity like so many other players did after a short career.

HEROIC’s next tournament, BetBoom Dacha Belgrade, starts tomorrow. With this roster change, it’s hard to expect the team to do well against the likes of MOUZ, Team Falcons, Team Spirit, and Virtus.pro. But we could see them in the playoffs because they’re in the easier group.

Their first match will be against MIBR, and the only strong team in group B is Spirit. If they can beat MIBR and Aurora, they’re in the playoffs. But even if they don’t qualify, competing at an event like this is a great experience that will speed up degster’s integration.
