Two years ago, in October 2020, Heroic occupied the number one spot in CS:GO for a brief period of time. They had climbed the ladder with great speed, going from being ranked 36th in May to being first in October. But then, just as fast, they dropped out of the top 10 for a while.

In 2022, Heroic’s lowest point was September. Back then, they were ranked 15th and were struggling to integrate their newest player, Jakob “jabbi” Nygaard, who had replaced Ismail “refrezh” Ali. Initially, the roster struggled after the change was made, but just a few months later they had their first important result.

Heroic’s rise to the top

On November 13, Heroic finished second at IEM Rio Major after losing in the Grand Final against Outsiders. Just two weeks later, the team won the trophy at BLAST Premier: Fall Finals 2022, a tournament in which they had to defeat formidable opponents like G2 Esports, Team Liquid, and FaZe Clan to claim the title.

Thanks to these victories, Heroic have earned the number one spot in CS:GO once again. Arguably, that position should probably belong to Outsiders, but because of how the ranking system works, Heroic’s BLAST Premier success was enough to propel them to the top, at least until the next big tournament attended by Outsiders or FaZe.

What’s next

Heroic’s next important tournament is BLAST Premier World Final 2022. This is the last CS:GO LAN of the season and its prize pool is $1 million. It constitutes the epic finale of the 2022 BLAST Premier season and will feature eight amazing teams.

Heroic will have some really tough competition at this tournament. And because they’re now the number one team in CS:GO, every other competitor will probably study them very carefully.

Fortunately for Heroic, Dust 2 has been removed from the Active Duty Map Pool. This was the only map that they weren’t playing. In every single match, Casper “cadiaN” Moller was forced to ban it immediately. And that made his team much weaker against certain opponents, who had a very strong map that he couldn’t ban.

With Dust 2 out of the map pool, cadiaN can focus his first ban on whatever his opponents love the most, unless of course his team loves that map as well. This is a huge buff for Heroic, who might end up dominating the rest of 2022 and even the first half of 2023 as a result. But first, we’ll have to wait and see what happens at BLAST Premier World Final.
