The ESL Pro League S17 Group B action is underway, and so far, we haven’t seen any surprises regarding the winning and losing teams in the first rounds. The teams listed as favorites have performed excellently in this start, while the contenders are still alive to fight for the two remaining spots in the playoffs.

We have two teams qualified for the ESL Pro League S17 playoffs, Heroic and MOUZ. Both teams showed spectacular play and fulfilled those who labeled their favorites in this Group Stage.

Heroic and MOUZ deliver and get into the playoffs of the ESL Pro League S17

In a group that did not have very strong competition, Heroic and MOUZ managed to overcome their rivals to reach the Upper Bracket Final and secure their place in the playoffs of this EPL S17. Now, these teams must play the final match, where we will have the final positions of both teams.

Remember that the final positions in the teams’ group stage influence their placement in the Playoffs Brackets, so even though they are qualified, they must fight with the knife between their teeth to win this final match.

Heroic Road

The #2 team in the world, according to the ESL Rankings, Heroic, had a relatively easy path to achieve this qualification in the ESL Pro League S17 Playoffs. We say this because after crushing Movistar Riders with two spectacular partials in Ancient (16-6) and Overpass (16-5), they had some problems with BIG in the next phase.

In the series against the Germans, Heoric was caught on the first map, Nuke, and BIG managed to take the match to Overtime. However, Rene “TeSeS” Madsen and Jakob “jabbi” Nygaard managed to carry their team to take a big win, 19-16.

In the second map, Inferno, BIG continued demonstrating a spectacular level of play. Despite ending the first half with a flat 8-7 CT side, they managed to pose a lethal T-side offense that was virtually unstoppable by Heroic. Nils “k1to” Gruhne carried BIG in this game and finished with 99.2 ADR and a 1.49 Rating to lead his team to the 16-13 victory.

The third map (Vertigo) had a lot more excitement. Of that, there is no doubt. Karim “Krimbo” Moussa and TeSeS had a pitched battle in this third and decisive spectacular map. Krimbo finished with 101.2 ADR and a 1.43 rating, while TeSeS had 95.7 ADR and a 1.47 Rating, according to HLTV.

BIG was placed in a double match-point, but, Heroic pulled out all his experience and returned from the map to take the series and qualify for the playoffs.

MOUZ’s way

MOUZ, on the other hand, has had a completely different path to Heroic, as they managed to win their two games without losing a single map. However, like Heroic, they delivered a big blow to Iberian CS:GO by crushing SAW 16-3 (Vertigo) and 16-9 (Ancient).

We all expected the team to have much more resistance in the second match, facing the experienced South American squad, FURIA. However, the consistency and performance problems of the Brazilians came to the fore. They made some unthinkable mistakes that MOUZ could capitalize on to take a comfortable 2-0 victory.

MOUZ’s leading scorers throughout the series were Christopher “dexter” Nong and Jon “JDC” de Castro, who finished with 1.29 and 1.19 Ratings, according to HLTV, respectively. On the Brazilian side, Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato had a great series, but he did not have the support of his teammates to get the victory in this match, and now they have three more chances to get the ticket to the playoffs of the EPL S17.

The actions of Group B continue today, March 3, with the following matches:

  • FURIA Esports vs. Movistar Riders – 16:00 CET
  • BIG vs. SAW – 19:30 CET
