While Watford suffered relegation to the Championship after five years in the top flight in real-life football, the club did receive some positive news this week, with Hashtag Tom having won the ePremier League in the world of Esports. Tom “Hashtag Tom” Leese, representing the Hornets, saw off competition from the other 19 Premier League teams, eventually overcoming Bournemouth’s Marc “MarcMarleyyy” Marley in the Grand Final.

How the ePremier League Grand Final Played Out

After making it safely through to the Grand Final, Hashtag Tom and MarcMarleyyy certainly put on a show for viewers, with the duo having come through their respective PlayStation4 and Xbox One rounds to reach this stage of the competition. The PS4 took place first, with a single goal from Roberto Firmino giving Hashtag Tom a narrow lead ahead of the reverse fixture. The switch to Xbox seemingly had a positive effect for the Watford man, with a goal from Paul Pogba putting the Hashtag United man on top. However, following a penalty miss from Tom, MarcMarleyyy gained in confidence, finding the back of the net through Trezeguet.

It ultimately wasn’t enough however, with Hashtag Tom holding on for a 2-1 win, claiming the prize money of £20,000 in the process. It was the first major trophy for the Watford representative, with pre-tournament favourite Tekkz having surprisingly been knocked out in the Console Finals. Discussing his success, Hashtag Tom stated the following: “I can’t lie, today I’ve been really calm, but to actually win something, it doesn’t feel real. “How am I going to celebrate? We’re going to enjoy our night!”

Marleyyy Shocks Fnatic Tekkz in the Xbox Final

Xbox champion Marley went home with £10,000 for his efforts, having caused the shock of the tournament in defeating Donovan “Fnatic Tekkz” Hunt in the Xbox Final, overcoming the former champion and Liverpool man 5-3. Ranked 45 in the FIFA world rankings, the victory for Marley surprised all involved, with a hat-trick from Trezeguet helping him on his way to the Grand Final. In the PS4 Final, Hashtag Tom comfortably made it through to the Grand Final following a 5-1 success over Chelsea’s Kyle “Hammond” Hammond.
