Hanwha Life sweep T1 and lock direct LCK Playoffs berth

Hanwha Life Esports have secured second place in the 2026 LCK regular season after sweeping T1 2-0 in the final Legend Group series on August 23. The result gives HLE a direct place in Playoffs Round 2, while T1 finish the regular season in third and will have to begin their postseason run one round earlier.

The matchup had effectively become a direct battle for second place. Gen.G had already secured the top seed, leaving Hanwha Life and T1 separated by only one series before their final meeting. HLE entered at 18-7, while T1 stood at 17-8.

Hanwha Life take control of the race for second

Hanwha Life entered the final week with momentum after recovering from their earlier defeat against Gen.G. Wins over KT Rolster and Dplus KIA kept them ahead of T1 and ensured that the final meeting between the two teams would decide the second seed.

T1 had also kept their chances alive with a 2-1 victory over KT Rolster on August 20. Peyz played a major role in that result and made clear afterward that T1 were targeting second place.

The stakes for the final series were therefore straightforward:

• Hanwha Life would secure second place with a victory
• T1 could overtake HLE by winning the series
• Second place meant direct qualification to Playoffs Round 2
• The losing team would finish third and enter the playoffs earlier

Hanwha Life ultimately removed any uncertainty with a clean 2-0.

Kanavi drives HLE ahead in Game 1

Hanwha Life established control early in the opening game, with Kanavi finding several kills and creating the tempo for his team. Gumayusi and Delight were also heavily involved in early skirmishes, allowing HLE to build the stronger position.

T1 did manage to stabilize during the middle stages and at one point reduced the gold difference to around 1,000. The comeback attempt ended around the 20-minute mark, however, when Hanwha Life won a crucial fight and converted it into Baron.

From there, HLE accelerated the game. The Baron buff allowed them to remove multiple towers, expand the gold lead and push directly into T1’s base.

Hanwha Life closed Game 1 in approximately 28 minutes, putting themselves one win away from securing the second seed.

HLE dominate the second game

The second game was considerably less competitive.

T1 found some early success through Peyz, but Hanwha Life began opening a significant advantage from around the 11-minute mark. By the time the game approached 20 minutes, the difference had grown to more than 7,000 gold.

HLE again converted their lead through Baron and quickly moved into T1’s base. The series ended in straight games, giving Hanwha Life their 19th victory of the regular season.

The clean result is particularly important given HLE’s inconsistent form across parts of Rounds 3 and 4. Zeka had already said following the recent 2-0 win over Dplus KIA that the team’s form was improving compared with earlier weeks.

That improvement now appears to have arrived at exactly the right time.

Bot lane battle ends in HLE’s favor

The series also carried additional intrigue because of the personnel on both sides.

Hanwha Life fielded former T1 ADC Gumayusi alongside Delight, while T1’s bot lane featured Peyz and Keria. The matchup had been highlighted as one of the biggest individual battles before the series, especially given Peyz’s recent performances.

HLE’s wider team play ultimately proved more decisive. Kanavi consistently generated pressure, while Gumayusi and Delight were able to support the team’s skirmishing and objective control.

The result also gives Hanwha Life another victory over T1 after beating them 2-1 earlier in Round 3. T1 had won their earlier meetings during the season, but HLE have now taken the two most recent series between the teams.

T1 now face a longer playoff route

For T1, missing second place does not end their championship ambitions, but it makes their route significantly more difficult.

A direct Round 2 berth would have provided additional preparation time and removed one elimination series from the schedule. Instead, Faker and the rest of the roster must navigate Playoffs Round 1 before they can reach the later stages.

The result also highlights the inconsistency that has affected T1 during the closing weeks of the regular season. They entered the HLE matchup after ending a losing streak against KT Rolster, but were unable to carry that recovery into the most important series of the final round.

Assessment

Hanwha Life’s 2-0 victory represents an important response to a difficult period in their LCK campaign. After losing ground in the battle for first place, they recovered with three consecutive wins against KT Rolster, Dplus KIA and T1 to secure second.

The direct Playoffs Round 2 qualification gives HLE a valuable advantage. They will have fewer series to survive and additional time to prepare for the strongest teams in the bracket.

For T1, the situation is more demanding but far from disastrous. Their third-place finish still leaves them firmly among the leading contenders, although the loss to HLE shows that consistency remains an issue heading into the postseason.

Hanwha Life, meanwhile, enter the playoffs with renewed momentum and a convincing final statement against one of their biggest domestic rivals.
