Arrowhead Game Studios shared a fresh trailer for Helldivers 2, and while the main purpose was to promote the game’s arrival on Xbox Series X and S on August 26, 2025, it ended up making fans wonder about something else entirely. The closing part of the trailer, short but rather striking, seemed to carry a quiet tease toward a Halo crossover that people are now debating about.

The last shot shows a drenched futuristic city under pouring rain, where a lone Hellpod falls into the background. Over it plays a slow saxophone track, not random at all, since many quickly identified it as from Halo 3: ODST. That game, which Bungie launched in 2009 for the Xbox 360, had players take the role of an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper during the events around Halo 2. This hint makes people think Helldivers 2 could be getting themed content, maybe ODST-style soldiers, weapons like the famous assault rifle, or even the Warthog vehicle.

If such a crossover happens, it won’t be something without precedent. The game already had a Killzone collaboration in 2024, and there’s also the fact that Fortnite let Master Chief appear on every platform, including PlayStation. Since crossplay in Helldivers 2 will work across PC, PS5, and Xbox, there is nothing stopping Halo-inspired characters from appearing, no matter where you play.

Since releasing on PC and PS5 back in February 2024, Helldivers 2 has been nothing short of a standout for Sony’s live service push, selling over 12 million copies in only 12 weeks and holding the record as the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios title. Even now, player numbers remain strong, and the Xbox version will likely grow the active community even more.

Game Director Mikael Eriksson said the team is thrilled to welcome new players, adding they have “a lot more planned for the coming months and years” and that the battle for Super Earth is far from finished. Whether the ODST reference was a playful nod or the first sign of a full crossover, fans will find out soon after the game’s Xbox launch.
