In Ghost of Yotei, climbing Mount Yotei is not only an optional side trip with breathtaking views, but it is your means of obtaining, perhaps, the best optional reward as part of the game, the Inheritance trophy, which entails getting your parents’ charms back. This article will also help you make sure that you do not miss on the other essential optional rewards along the way too.
Why Climb Mt. Yotei

Atop Mt. Yotei lies a shrine containing two Omamori charms.
- Mother’s Charm raises your arrow damage by increasing projectile speed.
- Father’s Charm will now restore a little health when executing perfect parries.
Receiving both unlocks the Inheritance trophy. But, more than the trophy, they have narrative significance while enhancing your combat abilities.
Locating the Mount Yotei Shrine
You can’t start climbing at just any place, you have to get to a specific place.
In the Yotei Grasslands (to the west of the game), you have to head to the Yotei River to the south of Lake Jozan and to the north of Jade Grove.
On the western side of the Yotei River where the river bends, you will see a small trail leading in toward Mt. Yotei, this is where you will start.
Traversal Route & Obstacles
Upon entering, you navigate across a ruined bridge to the side of a waterfall; you need to leap across the protruding branches as you climb across the chasm.
You then crawl through a small cave and come out higher, following white rock paths and torii gate markers. Beware of short ledges, where the next gate often is hidden. If you get lost, retrace your steps with the white stripes or torii markers.
Then there are the damaged bridges, slick slopes, and rope grabs. You’ll slide down rock roads, with chain ropes to help you climb up them. Just as when sliding, you’ve got to keep control of your air so you land within the grapple spots.
Next, you’ll encounter cliffs with handholds, with heavy white grips on the walls. You will bounce off of branches and ledges, and when needed, ropes will tend to bounce you even higher. Leap in successive directions rather than trying once, and if you fall, climb back up to safety instead of free falling.

At the next level, you then cross a decaying shack, climbing up through broken stairs, traverse some ropes, and then climb up through branches and stepping stones. The route is locked onto a line, don’t move sideways. Be sure to see the next rope before committing.
The route goes forward, while a gravel slide takes you downhill, and then you will have to look, and pull yourself up with an overhead rope. Then you continue through a snow zone and amid torii gates to reach the crater. Do not try to walk here as it is loose gravel, just slide down it.
At the very last stretch near the top, you traverse rock faces, leap rifts, and go through your last few torii gates before reaching the shrine.
When you get to the room of the shrine, walk in and towards the altar and there you will take your Mother’s Charm and Father’s Charm, which also enables you to unlock the Inheritance trophy.
Conclusion
Rising Mt. Yotei in Ghost of Yotei tests your navigation rather than combat skill. Its rewards, the pair of Omamori charms and the Inheritance trophy, are both symbolic, as well as mechanically important, improving your options for melee and ranged combat. Players can divide the climbing into manageable parts and solidify a memory of visual cues to reach the summit and collect their inheritance.
